Mission: To provide Winnebago County residents with access to university resources and opportunities to engage in lifelong learning, wherever they live and work. Programs support agriculture, the community, youth, and family collaborations through local outreach and research efforts to assess beliefs, attitudes, behaviors and needs of Winnebago Co residents.

Clientele: People in county, state, federal, and tribal governments, community organizations, volunteers, businesses and industry.

Services: Promote family strengths, manage finances and housing resources, become more effective parents and caregivers, make safe and healthy food choices, enhance interpersonal skills and decision making and identify and address family related community issues.

Internship Description (120 Hours): Position Objectives:

•Provide student with an opportunity to become familiar with UW-Extension, exploring all four program areas.

•Provide student opportunities to work with Family Living Education programs, including program development, delivery and evaluation

  • Assisting individuals and families in using resources effectively.

  • Planning, promotion, conducting and evaluating educational programs.

  • Responds to information requests from individuals regarding family and consumer science concerns.

•Provide assistance with programs offered by the Family Living Educators, including:

  • Financial management

    • Money Management workshops

    • Decision making

  • Housing

  • Rent Smart

  • Re-entry

  • Family relationships

  • Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

  • Strengthening Families

  • Home and Community Education

  • Leader Training Programs

  • Bookworms

  • Board activities

  • Family Living Website

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Background in Family and Consumer Sciences or related area of study.

2. Ability to independently plan, promote, implement and evaluate educational programs.

3. Organizational abilities and leadership skills.

4. Ability to work with diverse clientele and organizations.

5. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

6. Ability to do public speaking and demonstrations.
