Services: SOAR programs include social, recreational and educational programs, advocacy groups, support groups, camps, family programs, Special Olympics and community education.

Internship Description (120 Hours):

Overview

The SOAR Program Internship is a hands-on learning experience working with youth and adults with developmental disabilities. The Intern will assist the program directors/coordinators with social, recreational and educational programs, support groups, family programs, advocacy groups, and community education. This is an unpaid internship.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

· Plan, coordinate, assist with and participate in SOAR programs including Adult Social, Recreation and Respite, Adult Education, Community Education, Family, Special Olympics and Youth

· Prepare materials for programs

· Assist agency with office duties and data entry

· Assist with community and fundraising events

· Maintain a safe environment for all participants

· Evening availability required

Qualifications:

· Ability to work independently and as part of team, with a diverse group of people, in a flexible environment

· Self-motivated and positive attitude

· Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is helpful but not required

· Currently pursuing a degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology or related field

· Background check required

Advanced Internship Description (280 Hours):

The Advanced Internship will provide increased opportunities to take the lead on program activities. This is an unpaid internship.

With the Advanced Internship, students will be given more responsibility to fully take the lead on program activities from planning through execution. This may include coordinating and leading current activities or coming up with completely new ideas for program activities. The Advanced Internship will also provide opportunities for students to get more experience at the macro-level with fundraising and community outreach efforts.
