Mission: The mission of the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac is to create hands-on learning experiences through interactive exhibits and educational programs that will engage children and their caregivers in the partnership of learning through play.

Clientele: We primarily serve children and their caregivers. We also invite community members to rent our facility for meetings, gatherings, and special occasions.

Services: We provided a save environment in which children and their caretakers can interact with each other through play. We provide classroom spaces that are able to be rented for meetings, gathering, and other occasions. When these spaces are rented we prove an event manager to help assist with set up/take down and be of an assistants for anything the party may need.

Internship description (120 hours): The following are job descriptions of the staff of the CMFDL and potential areas for interns to gain experience with. We will work with the interns to tailor their internships to best utilize their skills and interests.

Building and Exhibits

PRIMARY PURPOSE The intern would assist the current Buildings and Exhibits Specialist within Facility and Exhibits who is responsible for maintaining, repairing and facilitating development of the facility and exhibits while utilizing the organization standard of customer service to support the mission of the museum. Responsible for coordinating volunteers and contractors to support the quality of exhibits and facility offerings.

Visitor Services

PRIMARY PURPOSE The intern would assist the Visitor Services team and report to the Visitor Services Manager. This position is responsible for setting the tone of the customer service (Welcoming Helping Friendly Fun & Proactive or WHFF & P) for the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac (CMFDL). The VSC provides support to the VS team in the following areas: customer service, birthday parties, scheduling and registration, events and museum/exhibits cleaning.

Communications & Marketing

PRIMARY PURPOSE The intern would assist the current Communications and Marketing Specialist who is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of the Museum’s marketing strategies and communications, and provides leadership and overall management of Museum branded materials. The Communications & Events Specialist (CES) maintains CMFDL’s digital presence through social media postings and communications, and coordinates the creation of any basic design needs for the museum including print materials (brochures, name tags, etc.) and signage. The CES is responsible for planning and implementing the Museum’s special events (working closely with other staff) and for coordinating museum space/room rentals with private guests and parties. This position also assists in Visitor Services when needed by providing friendly customer service, cleaning throughout the Museum, and running the front desk and registers. The CES works effectively in a team environment, assisting the Executive Director and other Museum staff with administration, as necessary.

Development & Administrative

PRIMARY PURPOSE The intern would assist the current Development and Administrative Assistant (DAA) who supports the identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition of donors. Utilizing the Museum’s donor software system, the DAA supports the critical function of maintaining accurate donor records. The DAA assists the Executive Director with grant applications and coordinates the annual appeal. The DAA works effectively in a team environment, assisting the Museum managers with administration, as necessary.

Programs & Education

PRIMARY PURPOSE The intern would assist the current Museum Educator who teaches or leads educational programs both in the museum and out in the community. This position is responsible for preparing and presenting programs that support the mission of the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac (CMFDL); to create hands-on learning experiences that engage children and their caregivers in a partnership of learning through play. The ME works under the guidance of Executive Director and supports the Education, Visitor Services and Communication team members, including feature teachers and program volunteers, providing high quality, organized and energetic leadership of museum programming.

Advanced Internship description (280 hours): Not available for Advanced Internship students.
