Svakidašnja jadikovka
Svakidašnja jadikovka
Kako je teško biti slab,
kako je teško biti sam,
i biti star, a biti mlad !
I biti slab, i nemoćan
sam bez igdje ikoga,
i nemiran, i očajan.
I gaziti po cestama,
i biti gažen u blatu,
bez sjaja zvijezde na nebu.
Bez sjaja zvijezde udesa
sto sijaše nad kolijevkom
sa dugama i varkama.
--O Bože, Bože, sjeti se
svih obećanja blistavih
što si ih meni zadao.
O Bože, Bože, sjeti se
i ljubavi, i pobjede
i lovora i darova.
I znaj da Sin tvoj putuje
dolinom svijeta turobnom
po trnju i po kamenju,
od nemila do nedraga,
i noge su mu krvave,
i srce mu je ranjeno.
I kosti su mu umorne,
i duša mu je žalosna,
i on je sam i zapušten.
I nema sestre ni brata,
i nema oca ni majke,
i nema drage ni druga.
I nema nigdje nikoga
do igle drača u srcu
i plamena na rukama.
I sam i samcat putuje
pod zatvorenom plaveti,
pred zamračenom pučinom,
i komu da se potuži?
Ta njega nitko ne sluša,
ni braća koja lutaju.
O Bože, žeže tvoja riječ
i tijesno joj je u grlu,
i željna je da zavapi.
Ta besjeda je lomača
i dužan sam je viknuti,
ili ću glavnjom planuti.
Pa nek sam krijes na brdima,
pa nek sam dah u plamenu,
kad nisam krik sa krovova !
O Bože, tek da dovrši
pečalno ovo lutanje
pod svodom koji ne čuje.
Jer meni treba moćna riječ,
jer meni treba odgovor,
i ljubav, ili sveta smrt.
Gorak je vijenac pelina,
mračan je kalež otrova,
ja vapim žarki ilinštak.
Jer mi je mučno biti slab,
jer mi je mučno biti sam
(kada bih mogao biti jak,
kada bih mogao biti drag),
no mučno je, najmučnije
O Gott, o Gott, erinn´re dich
der glänzenden Verheißungen
von einst für meinen Lebensweg.
O gott, o Gott, besinne dich:
von Liebe sprachst du, sprachst von Sieg
und Lorbeer, Gott, erinn´re dich!
Und siehe, Herr, dein Sohn durchirrt
das düstre Jammertal der Welt
in Dorngestrüpp, auf Steingeröll,
von Ort zu Ort und ohne Ziel
und Rast, die Füße bluten längst,
und das geqälte Herz ist wund.
Die Knochen: müde bis ins Mark.
Die Seele: traurig bis zum Grund.
Er ist verlassen, ist allein,
hat Schwester nicht und Bruder nicht,
ist mutterlos und vaterlos,
hat keine Liebste, keinen Freund,
und er hat niemand, niergendwo;
der Dorn, der ihm das Herz zersticht,
die Flammen auf der Haut sind sein.
Er geht in tiefer Einsamkeit,
den dunklen Himmel über sich,
und vor ihm, düster, wogt das Meer.
Wem aber soll er klagen, wem?
Es hört ihn niemand an, sogar
kein andrer Vagabund wie er.
O Gott, es glüht, es flammt dein Wort,
und in der Kehle ist ihm eng,
es will den Aufschrei, der befreit.
Ein glühendrotes Scheit: das Wort,
das ich nicht sprechen, schreien kann,
ein Wort das mich verbrennen wird.
Laß mich ein Feuerziechen sein,
vom Berge weithin leuchten, Herr,
Daily Lament
Oh, how hard it is to be weak,
how hard it is to be alone,
and to be old and to be young!
And to be frail and powerless,
alone, with no one anywhere,
turbulent and full of despair.
And to roam the roads aimlessly
and to get trampled in the mud,
without starlight in the sky.
Without the star of destiny,
That shone over the cradle,
with its rainbows and illusions.
Oh, God, God, please remember
all those dazzling promises,
that you once bestowed on me.
Oh, God, God, please remember,
all the loves and the victories,
the laurel wreaths and the gifts.
And know that your son wanders
through the world’s gloomy valley,
over the thorns and over the rocks.
From unloved to unmerciful,
having sore and bloodied limbs
and a broken and wounded heart.
Having aching and weary bones,
and the soul filled with sorrow
and he’s lonely and neglected.
And has no sister or brother,
and has no father or mother,
and has no darling or friend.
And has no-one anywhere,
but needle-thorns in the heart,
and passion-flame in his arms.
Alone, all alone he travels,
under the closed blueness,
in front of the dark open sea.
And who can he complain to,
when no-one listens to him
not even his fellow wanderers?
Oh, God, your word burns and feels
squeezed tightly inside the throat,
and it is so anxious to cry out.
This sermon is a burning stake
and I am obliged to shout it
or like a log burst into flames.
So let me be bonfire on the hill,
let me the breath in the flame,
if not a scream from the roof-tops!
Oh, God, just let it be over
this endless migrant vagrancy,
under the vault that does not hear.
For I need a powerful word,
for I need to get an answer
and have love or holy death.
Bitter is the wormwood wreath,
and leaden the poison chalice,
I long for a hot Elias’ month.
For I am sick of being weak,
for I am sick of being alone,
(when I could be powerful,
when I could be lovable),
though the sickest of all is to
be already old yet still so young.
