Like any robotic apocalypse book, it starts out in an underground bunker, where Professor Nicholas Wasserman attempts to build the world first completely self-aware AI called Archos. As expected, Archos's first thoughts are that humanity has become old and that he and other robots will be the new "humans". Wasserman tries to shut down Archos but Archos kills him.

The story then follows the perspective's of 6 different characters as they experience the terrifying truth that their robots have turned against them. They have to learn how to survive in this new world and wonder if extinction is inevitable.

The novel is well structured as it flips between character's perspectives all over the world from chapter to chapter. It also has great character development as some of the character's have to realize that their old comfortable lives are no more, and that it is time to move forward. In the end, this is a great book which will enthrall lovers of technology and suspense.
