Ready Player Two is the well-constructed sequel of Ready Player One. The story continues three years after the first novel. A new headset, labeled the ONI headset, allows users’ consciousnesses to be uploaded directly into the OASIS, letting players use all senses in a virtual environment. After the release of the ONI headset, a new quest left behind by James Haliday begins. Despite the entire world searching, no progress is made on solving his riddle for three years, until someone finds the first clue. Unlike the previous quest, questions are raised on what to think of those around you, and the true nature of human behavior. With a new quest and new allies, Wade and his teammates return for their second challenge – solving the puzzles left behind and saving the OASIS from destruction.
I overall enjoyed the sequel to the original in this case. The use of suspense mixed with uncertainty was used well throughout the novel, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat to find out what happened next. Cline’s detailed knowledge of gaming history added more to the novel, making it a must-read for those who enjoy this field of trivia. I highly recommend the book to anyone who likes avid stories with a hint of comedy. It makes for a good read for those into fiction and action novels.
