Shreya | W.R Satz Middle School, Grade 8
Rating: **
Prudence Barnett is a straight A+ student, dedicated to pre-planning and managing her projects. She manages everything related to studies, except for her wayward Biology teammate. Quint Erikson arrives late, forgets to do his part in their project, and most annoyingly has typos. When Pru gets a B- on their project she begs Quint to redo it with her.
Determined to get the grade she wants, she looks at Quint’s part of the project and learns about a Marine Center for injured animals. Run by Rosa, who is coincidently Quint’s mother. In order to redo the project, she has to work at the center. During her time there she learns more about the environment, animals predicament, and her feelings toward Quint.
To be honest, I really liked all the other novels by Marissa Meyer, but I didn't really like this one. I found the book-as I have said from the beginning to be a bit like a Dolphin Tale fanfiction sort of story. In my humble opinion, all of the characters were crusty. I didn’t like Quint because he was annoying, I didn’t like Prudence since she was just a stick in the mud, I didn’t like Ezra since he was just plain creepy. I liked Araceli and Jude, since they were nice. If I had to say one positive thing about the novel, it that I liked the karma part. But I did not like Prudence’s judgement. I liked the subtle air of mystery towards the end, which was undercover during the whole book. I hated the romance in the book. But that's just me, I just widely hate romance novels. But if you favor a hardcore romance, mixed with an air of mystery, enemies-to lovers, and supernatural happenings this is the book for you.
