A Study in Scarlet is the first of a great series of books by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle about the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. The book begins with a man named Dr. Watson, who has returned to London after fighting in an Afghan war. He meets up with a friend who tells him about a man named Sherlock Holmes who is looking for a roommate. Watson and Holmes meet each other and eventually become roommates. Holmes tells Watson that he is a detective and gets a call from a police officer about a murder. Holmes invites Watson to come along and they see a murder scene with the word "Rache" written on the wall. Holmes finds more clues, including a wedding ring and documents. Together, Watson and Holmes investigate this mystery, being one of the most famous mysteries in all of literature.
I highly recommend this book because it was extremely exciting and was filled with great character development. Not only was the mystery exciting but the reader can see what Sherlock Holmes is like through the lens of Watson, a person to whom the reader can relate, which makes the story very interesting. Additionally, this book is filled with plot twists, and I recommend this book and the rest of the Sherlock Holmes books to any reader who likes mysteries.
