16 year old Lina travels to Tuscany, Italy for the summer because her mother’s dying wish is that she meets her father that lives there. However, Lina has no desire to meet the father her mother never mentioned until she became sick. Lina is reluctant to embrace her trip and the beauty of Italy, until she receives a journal that her mother kept while she attended school in Italy. With the journal, Lina explores the wonders of Italy through her mother’s eyes. Along with the help of her new friend, Ren, she embarks on an adventure and begins to uncover a secret that her mother had kept for many years.
Welch’s “Love & Gelato” is beautifully descriptive and makes you feel as if you’ve been transported to the streets of Italy. Along with the transformative setting, this book is a page turner due to the drama and mystery that ensues. Readers are immersed in the plot as the book includes the journal entries of Lina’s mother that Lina uses to uncover her mysterious past. On top of this, Lina also navigates drama of her own as she begins to fall for a boy she meets in Italy. The combination of the setting, mystery, and drama keeps the reader entertained from beginning to end.

The book Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch is about Lina who is a sixteen year old girl who travels to Italy for the summer. However, her trip to Tuscany, Italy, was not happy and exciting. Lina’s mother only wants her to meet her father who lives there. However, Lina does not care because he has not been in her life until one day her mother mentioned her father when she became sick. Lina still did not want go to Italy. One day, she read her mother’s journals from when she had gone to school in Italy. Lina became more curious. Than, she met Ren, who was her new friend. Lina later discovered a crazy secret her mother had kept from her for a long time.
In my opinion, everyone should read this book. It was excellent! This book was very intriguing and always made me want to keep reading. This was a very well-written and adventurous book. Overall, I would definitely give this book five out of five stars!
