Quality of life seems to take a rapid descent for the young, already troubled, Percy Jackson after two separate attempts on his life. Thrust into the world of Greek mythology Percy abruptly discovers his teacher is a horse, his best friend is a goat and his dad is a god. Before he can say the word ‘demigod’ Percy is dragged on a quest across America to save all of the Greek world from a devastating war and his mother from his uncle Hades, the Greek god of the Underworld.
The first installment of a three-part, fifteen book world series, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief sets a very high standard for every other book in the series. Full of adventure and action the book centers around a young boy by the name of Percy Jackson as he explores the fascinating world of Greek mythology. Riordan portrays Percy as a witty and sarcastic individual that can really give the reader a couple of good laughs. Despite not having a very serious undertone, Riordan does a fantastic job at hooking the reader and keeping them engaged on Percy’s quest. The Lightning Thief is an overall enjoyable book that does great job at setting up a world ripe for exploration and adventure.
