“Beowulf” is the classic hero tale. Born a prince, the future king is set on a prophesied journey that would ultimately lead him to be fame and fortune. Early on, Beowulf is sent by his uncle to the Danes, where the people are being slaughtered in the middle of the darkest of nights. He soon learns that the beast that had brought chaos to the land comes at a price for its death, for soon, much more sinister threats emerge, and it seems as if it would be too late. There, he must stand, even if it were to mean life or death.
This story was not as bad as I imagined. The language, of Old English, adds such a unique depth to the story that makes it really stand out. And also, I frankly didn’t find it to be dry. There were some legitimately enjoyable moments such as the final moment of the piece. I recommend it to anyone interested in Shakespearean writings or just old literature in general. It makes you appreciate what you read now even more.
