The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon

Riley | Frank Antonides Middle School, Grade 8

Rating: ****

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is one of the best books that I’ve read, and I could not put it down. Out of five stars, I would give the novel a four and a half. The author, Mark Haddon uses imagery to create extremely vivid pictures of the setting, characters, and everything happening around them. There are certain parts of the book, when the suspension builds up and the plot thickens. For example, when Christopher, the main character finds out the truth about his mother. The reason I wouldn’t give the book a full 5 stars, is because the grammar was a little confusing because it was written in England, but it was still an overall great book.

This book is about a 15 year old boy with autism named Christopher Boone. He goes on a journey to find out who killed his neighbors dog, Wellington. Along the way, he runs into many obstacles and meets lots of new friends. He figures out who killed the dog, but it was someone who he would have never suspected. This intimidates him and he feels that he is no longer safe in his own house. He goes on a journey across the country gets himself in a sticky situation. In the end, things go back to somewhat normal and he gets a dog of his own to take care of because he was extremely upset about Wellington.

All in all, this was a great book and I recommend it to any teens who enjoy realistic fiction or mystery.
