Your never imagined your return to Morian would have been so successful. It was burning a hole in your heart not knowing how much of your journey was real and what had happened to your friends. Yes, they were friends and now you see them as important to the dispatching of Delrona as Haden, Drue, Talik and Alster had been. The night had been long with feasting and music late into the star washed night and you had been told that the weather would be fair on the seas for the next few days which seemed like a sign. Talik pined to be home and had put up with your extra stopover but you knew we had best be on the docks in the morning if we were to make a smoother crossing. I didn't need to give Talik any encouragement to leave the celebrations and head for bed with the trade off of a clear crossing as incentive. We said our goodbyes to Haden, Drue who had journeyed from Vay just to see us and the Chief et al, but you had a feeling that it wouldn't be a true goodbye rather a 'see you next time'. The morning walk was uneventful, rude smells from the marsh as we passed, a great breakfast at the Bordrad Marsh Tavern, some sort of spicey sausage which you hoped was wasn't frog and then we were at the docks.
The docks in the morning were often chaotic, goods and passengers moving from shore to ship and vise versa, hustle everywhere, businessmen and merchants haggling and dealing. We were not on a schedule but we still wanted to be home as soon as possible so we found the biggest ship we could find which would be sailing that day for Karaz. Even saying the name brought a smile to your face. Its not like you hadn't been there in a forever, it was more that this time you were going home to stay for '....well, just stay is the plan', you thought. The tall masts and wide body of the Rokester made an easy meal of the wind and waves and Talik even mentioned enjoying her time on board. We arrived at Crystal Quay by the Zouken Monastery and you thought that even the air smelt better, the people of Karaz were bright and happy and many welcomed us as we disembarked, proving that Karaz was the friendliest of all the islands. You spent some time gathering some simple meals and supplies for the journey by carriage along the coast to Kath where your mother and father awaited your return anxiously walking back and forth in the courtyard, at least that is how you imagined them. You told Talik that you needed to make a stop at the Roka Monastery along the way and after an hour or two you would catch the next carriage. Talik was nearly done with my side trips and tried to convince you that it would be something that you could do alone once you had arrived at Kath but it made no sense to double back. "I have unfinished business at the Monastery and this has to be done". You explained to Talik who was getting quite salty about the whole thing. "This is where we met Drue and he asked me to do this for him." You say knowing that the evocation of his name will hold more weight than anything you could say.
"Alright, fine. But only for two hours then we go ok? Talik demanded. "What's this thing he has you doing anyway? She continued in a more receptive tone.
"Glad you asked," you say, " Do you remember my telling you when we met Drue in the forest he was searching for ancient artifacts — crystal shards containing memories precious to his people? Well, on Morian he handed me 5 memory shards that document some recently fallen riders and he said there are even mentions of us on them! You know the story would be awesome, Drue knows the names of every Rider’s griffon by heart and knows the winds and tides of all of Solea, that guy is detail oriented."
"I hope he mentions how I saved you from Delrona on that Central Island beach!" Talik snipped, knowing that there was much more to that story than even Drue could remember. You just nod and wink at your life saving friend and say, "We'll be there soon."
You arrived at the monastery and made your way along the purple tree lined trail to a lookout that featured the Yuka tree and the Volcano in the background. "Drue said that we have to place the memory shards in a pattern, 5 shards and a bowl before saying and incantation and then they will be accepted by the Yuka tree and will be stored forever."
"Sounds easy enough, but why do I get the feeling their will be a catch?" Talik says with a side eye.
"Yeah, I haven't worked that part out yet," you respond and then continue, "Well this is the spot, what do you think we do now?
You both look around and after a short search, you say "Oh, I see it!" You put the crystals in the pattern on the ground and say the Vay incantation. "Yuka Tree of ancient mind, entomb the stories here inscribed." The crystals began to spin on their axis and were soon spinning so fast that they just sank into the soil underneath them as the ground vibrated and liquified around them. You watched the whole thing with awe and when it was done said to Talik, "I guess were not the only ones with magic?"
What did you see? Draw the pattern that you have to put the crystals in and submit in Thy Quests below.
