You descend into the next room, unsure of where the girl has disappeared to though Haden was leading you as if she knew, you liked that about Haden, confident even when possibly wrong. The architecture in the Karaz tower is vastly different from what you saw in the previous tower on Elda Island — sharper and angular but more earthen, like the tower was carved from rock long ago with geometry in mind.
There's a flare of brightness, and the girl appears beside you. She's smaller now, more your height. The sudden appearance takes you back for a moment. "Sorry, your a little hard to get used to." You say to the girl. "What is this place?" you hear yourself asking. You can't help but be curious. The girl seems more alert than the boy did, and perhaps better able to answer your questions.
She gestures above you. Three slender pillars extend from the ceiling, from the room above to farther below.
"The Voek built this tower," she says. "I'm an extension of them."
"An extension?" Talik asks, the Mage tilting her head to the side. She seems confused.
The girl nods. "They created me to hold the memory of this tower. These pillars — they represent the Voek's alliance with your three tribes, when we lived together." She points to one pillar, then another. "Knowledge, balance, and partnership. That's what the Voek stood for."
You peer below, trying to get a good look. "What's down there?"
"Lava," comes Kiva's voice, as he leads the way down the staircase.
