The group gathers by the spring, restocking their water supplies and organizing their puff powder and items in their satchels. Patrice reaches into her pouch and retrieves a wad of food wrapped in animal skin, she shares it out to them as she talks about their harrowing crossing back at the ice bridge. As they chew on dried jerky of bluebeaked ganet, the tough but sweet meat provides a welcome sustenance after the tense crossing. "Thanks Patrice," you smile at her knowing that she is sharing her quickly depleting supplies.
Reflecting on the incident at the ice bridge, the group praises Zelnard for his quick thinking. "You really saved us back there," Kazrod says, clapping him on the back. Zelnard blushes under the attention, a shy smile spreading across his face. You look at him and pretend it's too much praise, roll your eyes and smile at the boy.
While refilling your pouches, Kazrod looks around, taking in the impressive mountain scene. He points out a distant cave entrance and can just make out its tall door made of blue ice and he describes it to the group. "Eternal ice," Lukindar presumes out loud. "We should get closer and investigate."
Dushino spots a path along the edge of the waterfall, leading to another large statue, this one with a ram's head. "Look at that," he says, pointing.
Patrice, studying the terrain, notes, "The path is wide, smooth, and shiny. But there's another trail leading to a snowy ridge." It seems rugged and dangerous and you are not at all sure. Why should you take the trail when there is a great short path across the ice? It ice is much thicker her than that bridge it really does seem safe. When you feel Patrice leaning towards guiding the group to the longer route you quickly suggest trying the fruit burr straps to your feet and crossing before night fall. The alternative is a trek halfway up that mountain, camping the night on some ledge, having your head chewed on by a snowlynx while you sleep and with nothing to burn up there, no breakfast in the morning which didn't excite you at all.
"I sense a storm coming in and out in the middle of that lake without any shelter would be the last place you would ever want to be." Explained Patrice. "We could summon Kinesia, she could dissipate the storm and we could cross." You suggest to the others. They all simultaneously stop what they are doing and look at each other with squinted eyes and furrowed brows. "Who is this Kenisa?" Zelnard asks as if on behalf of everyone in the group and they all nod and await an answer. "The sprite who can calm storms, she's blue and green, pink and the bottom.." you start to fade out as there are no looks of recognition on any of the faces, "she wears a dre..., alright, what is going on here? Why don't you know the same sprites? Why are you all so old and different? How do you know me? Why are we on this stupid quest?" You become more frantic, "What about Delrona, the page from the book of Lyt? The unstable lava and the corruption? The mega crsytal in the Home Tower on Central Island?" You break and let out an awkward half sob half breath as you struggle to breathe. Kazrod being a well trained healer, walked over to you, put one hand on your shoulder and the other on your chest. "Breathe in and hold", his tone was calm and voice smooth and relaxing, "now breathe out and look up to the sky!" You felt a warmth from his hands on that cold, cold night and came back to yourself again. You pukered your lips and gave a mighty exhale blowing out all of the trauma of the last week or so. "You are safe now and I am with you", Kazrod spoke almost monotone now. "Thanks," you look at him and nod, "I'm good now." "We don't all know you well but you are here at the behest of Galmon and a wiser leader has never graced the island of Morian so you must be the right mage for the task," "You haven't met Garrow", you mumble under your breath. Kazrod was soothing and you felt better but Zelnard was still looking at you awkwardly. You realise you had been holding a lot back over the last week or so and the fact that no one knew what you were talking about was the last straw. Dushino was only 25 but had some wisdom that you appreciated and spoke to you gently, "we know that have knowledge beyond our understanding and we talked about you being a little different but we trust in Galmon, you are the right person for the task as Kazrod was saying. We don't know Delrona, or the unstable lava or this corruption and there is no Central Island that any of us know of but the missing page from Ky's book of Lyt is real and that is our quest. There is a lot left unsaid after that evening but it seemed that everyone understood that was for the best. "Then let's get up that mountain!" you sighed, and your group all agreed that was the right choice and prepared for the hike. With fruit burrs on hand and some dried dead blue bird in you gut, (you never got accustomed to the bluebeaked ganet's musky taste), you all took another step in your quest.
