As the message from the phoenix echoes in your mind, the realization dawns that each clue gathered along the way is urging you to act together, leveraging each other's strengths. With newfound determination, you prepare to leave the old Guardian sanctuary. Just as you step outside, you notice an old tomb with its heavy stone door slightly ajar on the edge of the open field of the forest. The oddity of an open tomb piques your curiosity, and you feel an inexplicable pull to investigate further.
Inside, the air is thick with the scent of damp stone and age-old materials. The room is a perfect ten meters by ten meters, with walls worn smooth by centuries. Pillars, grand but crumbling, line the edges, their once-intricate carvings barely discernible under layers of grime. In the center of the room lies a stone floor, etched with the old word for "centre," surrounded by four rune symbols. Light from unseen crystals casts a spectral glow, arranged in a four-spoked wheel pattern.
Huddled together, you study the runes and recognize them as ancient symbols for Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. Alster's eyes light up with realisation. "It's a puzzle," he declares. "Its designed to keep everyday folk in the dark. But the answer lies in our quests."
You say to Alster, "Where did you get that from, some healer book in 400 year old section of the Arcanum?"
"No," he says, its the preamble to the daily puzzle board in the town market, I stop and do it everyday on my way to the market," he laughs.
"Well I think you are right its a puzzle and I think we all have to move a symbol to the centre," you state with conviction while in reality you were just making a really good guess.
"But in what order?" Haden asks, her brow furrowed with concern.
Alster steps forward, a confident smile playing on his lips. "I think I have it," he says. "Trust me. I have an idea for us and I do this kind of thing all the time and the answer really is from our quests."
He directs you to move your symbol first. As you push the heavy stone rune towards the center, the ground beneath your feet trembles slightly. Next, Haden carefully moves her symbol, followed by Alster, each stone sliding into place with a resonant click. You look at the final symbol, the rune for Water, left untouched at the edge of the pattern.
"What about the last symbol?" Talik asks, a hint of confusion in her voice. Is that for me?
Alster steps forward, his eyes narrowing as he studies the arrangement. "No," he says slowly, "that one is a ruse."
"How do you know?" Haden questions, her eyes wide.
Alster says, "Well two things actually, do you remember the message from Ky? That was big clue and then look at the crystals," He points to the light patterns on the floor. "Look at the way the light shines off them. It's meant to distract us. Water isn't part of this solution. The true key lies in the balance of the elements we've already placed, 1,2,3 like the colonies." Alster looked really please with himself but in this case you felt it was really deserved.
As Alster finishes speaking, the room shudders once more, and a hidden mechanism clicks into place. The floor beneath the runes glows brighter, revealing a hidden scroll. Excitement surges through you. Together, you've solved the puzzle, proving that your united strength can overcome even the most cryptic of challenges plus it really pays to stop and do the daily puzzle board on the way to market. With a shared glance and a nod, you pick up the ancient parchment and step forward outside.
What was moved and in what order to open the puzzle and reveal the hidden scroll? Enter the answer in Thy Quests to move forward.
