E4Q1 A Chance Encounter
After some time in the passages you feel the air pressure change and a cooler wind. You see light and movement at the end of the tunnel and enermge to a canopy of pruple leaves. The key to the island's power is shrouded in moonlight. You recall Ky's ancient message as you leave the underground passage, the white of the moon shining through a purple canopy overhead. Sprites twinkle like starlight among the violet foliage.
"This is Roka Forest," Talik says, awe in the Mage's voice. The Roka forest covers nearly a third of Karaz and it surround the Yuka tree, the oldest on the island. You are not sure where exactly you have emerged as the forest is so vast but it is undeniably beautiful. You spread out a little to gain orientation and try to determine which way to way. Haden was excellent at navigation and was already looking at the moon for clues about direction, "Does any one have a sextant?" she asks futilely, then "Wait, did you hear that?" She turns around to the direction of something that hear senses were tuning into.
A twig snaps. You whirl, and a man approaches from the shadows. A griffon strides quietly beside him, slinking toward you.
Maeka crouches and extends her hand. You open your mouth to protest, but the griffon only nuzzles her palm.
She introduces herself as Head Mage, then says, "You're from Vay, aren't you? You're a Griffon Rider."
"Our reputation precedes us yet again, we are glad that you know of us," the man answers, clearly pleased. He explains his name is Drue, and that he's returned to the Roka Forest in search of a particular memory crystal that has been kept by the Yuka tree for the people of Vay. He went on to tel you how teh ancient memories of heros and tales of there people are not stored in libararys but in the organic material of the Yuka tree. They can be retrieved via crystal shards containing memories which are precious to his people.
"I thought I had landed at the right site but I arrived after sunset and I could not find them here." Drue points past a cluster of sprites, "their light confused my griffon's navigation, they shine so bright just there," as they were illuminating a stone mound covered in moss. You squint. Are those windows you see in those ruins?
"That's Ky's hut," Maeka says nonchalantly.
"I thought it was only a legend.." You say greatly surprised. Talik as they only other mage with you seemed equally as dumbfounded, more so that Maeka was casually declaring the location of the hut than the fact it was not a legend. You remember seeing a drawing of Ky's hut in the TOME OF KNOWLEDGE
You explain that you're seeking a hidden key that is somewhere in the forest and that you could help each other, plus Drue was a dashing figure with his griffon by his side and spending some more time together would not be unpleasant.
Drue agrees to accompany you. You say, "I know a few places we could look and based on the Tome of Knowledge I think I know a clue."
Talik, responds, "You and that book are going to make us meet an early death."
"Oh, yeah, what did you last read that helped us in a quest, was it the recipe book with the wakku steaks? You fire back half in jest to your best friend.
In the tome there is a clue to the whereabouts of a memory shard that Ky kept hidden. What is that clue?
