After leaving the teahouse, you and your companions walk through Ridoan, the setting sun casting a warm, golden hue over the city. The light from fires flickers, casting a different glow on the paths and passageways. People are starting to head indoors, the streets gradually emptying as the evening deepens.
As you wander the town, discussing your next steps, Haden suddenly tenses. "We're being followed," she whispers, glancing over her shoulder. You all try to remain inconspicuous, continuing your conversation while subtly looking around. Sure enough, you notice a figure, a warrior, keeping a steady distance behind you, trying to blend in with the shadows but failing to escape your notice.
You decide to confirm your suspicion by taking a few unexpected turns, leading your group down a narrow alley and doubling back through a bustling marketplace. The figure remains behind you, their attempts at discretion becoming more apparent.
"We need to lose him," Haden mutters. You all quicken your pace, weaving through the now-emptying streets and ducking into a series of interconnected courtyards.
At one point, Alster nearly trips over a crate left in the middle of a path, causing a clattering noise that makes everyone wince. The noise draws the attention of the warrior, who picks up the pace. But with quick thinking and a little luck, you manage to slip through a hidden archway behind a dense thicket of vines, Haden really knows this city well.
You hold your breath as you hear the warrior's footsteps nearby, but they soon fade away as they continue down a different path, having lost your trail. You all breathe a sigh of relief, emerging from your hiding spot.
"It's like we are spies or a danger to Ridoan the way we are being treated," Haden complains to you all, clearly frustrated. "Why are they so wary of us?"
You all exchange worried glances, the weight of the situation sinking in as the city's lights flicker around you.
Haden kicks a stone. You've never seen her so upset before.
Her shoulders slump. "Dad never lets me help. He always says it's too dangerous. I know he's just being over protective. Our shields protect us, but a lot of people never return from the Ruined Lands. My dad even lost a sprite there once. But it's not fair! These are my people too and we have the experience and knowledge they need right now."
"We'll find a way to help," Talik says. "If the corruption is spreading, then your whole island in danger. We have to make sure the tower is not the cause or if it is then the balance is restored here too."
Talik sounds as fired up as you feel. You have to do something!
As the corruption sweeps into the forests and rivers serve as the only barrier to its progress the people recalled a old riddle. Answer this riddle as way to move to the next stage. "The more there is, the less you see. What am I?"
If you have trouble the answer is in the story.
