Your long journey is about to end. Your legs ache, your face is cold and your hands are cramped around the griffons reigns. You prepare for landing, digging your fingers into the griffon's coarse feathers three quarters of the way in. The long flight to Vay, the island in the clouds, both exhilarated and exhausted and you were tiring by half way. But excitement wins out as you step foot onto new ground.
A Vay woman approaches, smiling warmly. She introduces herself as Soera, one of the fifteen Vay Wardens, the council leaders. You greet her in kind, then tell her about your mission to find the last sibling of light. You look around, puzzled. Shouldn't there be a Voek tower here just as in the other 3 islands or did that just make three out of four?
She shakes her head. "There's a small tower in the south and we have heard noises of humming and a buzzing sound but no being of any kind occupies the tower. We believe that small tower is part of what keeps our islands afloat. But something has changed since we heard of your travels from Drue. Vay has always used the energy in the ethereal system to remain above the water in the clouds but our monitors tell me there are great movements and fluctuations in the flow of energy and it all happened since you reconnected the islands. Maybe our map room can provide some clues?"
Soera guides you to a massive building overlooking the capital, Riders and griffons eyeing you with curiosity. Inside, you follow Soera through a vast room to a large, round table. Shapes and lines pulse on its surface, which ripples like liquid, the table seems alive.
"This ancient artifact shows us the entire archipelago," Soera says. "This is Vay, and these are your islands." She points next to the table's outer rim. "These handprints appeared after you restored the other towers. I believe they're meant for a member of each of our tribes, it has been eons since this device was active and now it is and you arrive-I don't believe in coincidence so I you are here because you are meant to be."
At her instruction, you gather around and place your hands on the table. At once the surface changes. A single light blinks steadily — right in the centre of Vay.
"That point flashing at the centre of your island, what is it?" Haden asks.
Soera went on, "That is a small village called Arifla, and in that village is one of our floating cloud condensers, they use energy from the ethereal system to allow our islands to produce water from the air. The technology is not ours but we have learned how to maintain it over the years, until now. The power fluctuations is changing everything."
