You set up camp atop a plateau at the advice of the dock worker. As night seizes hold of the air and sky, dark winds howl across the valley. They are carrying a light snow that blankets the ground which freeze everything beneath its cover.
One of the mages, Lukinder, volunteers to take first guard duty. He is brave and reminds you of Haden which is saying something for a mage. Long into the night Lukinder paces to keep sleep at bay and warming blood in his icy feet. Were it not for the Snowdrop flowers of Stepstone he and hi party would have already expired. Yes it is still their party. No matter how real this seems you were not buying in. Lukinder looks north to the mountain's flank and sees large shadows dancing on the rock face. Or was it the night playing tricks on his weary mind? He alerts you all but by the time you wake and gather, rub sleep from your eyes and look in the direction Lukinder is pointing, there is nothing but a rock face and a high mountain ledge to see. Annoyed and tired you return to your slumber.
Later before the dawn, Kazrod who was next on guard duty rose from his mat, bid Lukinder good night and looks southward to the barren peak. A hulking silhouette climbs along the rock before disappearing. He wakes the others fearing an attack but what could he say was their foe. Shadows? Air? Darkness? He knew not what to prepare for. Should he wake the others again and face their anger if there was nothing to see. If only he was a warrior like Dushino he would have been trained for such a decision. Instead he prepared a description of what he had seen for the others and waited till dawn to pass it on.
When the sun rises, your group discusses the terrifying sightings of that night and the stoke the morning fire and huddle round its feeble flame. This creature is the key to finding the missing page you are sure of it. The fact that your quest focuses on the finding of the page from Ky's book is not lost on you. All of this, whatever it is, exists so that you can ....what? Find the page? Read it? Stop Delrona from getting her hands on it? But how if you are dead then it won't happen, if this is a vision then this isn't real and its all for nothing. Your confusion continues. Then Kazrod asks Lukinder to repeat his description of the sighting last night, Kazrod had 2 years seniority over Lukinder at 18 and spoke as if he had finished studies at Stonehaven in Verdalia if that was still a thing. Kazrod listens to Lukinder and any others that heard or saw anything. He hears all the versions of the night of terror and declares. "I have it! I am sure I know of what you hath seen" Only which way should you all go? Into the nearby chasm? Yes! And you know why.
