E3Q3 The Final Element
Upon arriving at the academy, an audience is summoned for you. So far, you've gathered the leaders of the Fire, Water, and Air Mages to your cause and this group is rarely seen together so that in itself was a notable achievement thought getting here was no simple task. Now only Earth remains — the Head Mage, Maeka, who oversees the city itself and who was your instructor and mentor as you studied your powers as an Earth Mage.
"I'm surprised to see you all together," Maeka says when she joins you. And you," Maeka looks directly at you, "I sent you to Eldonia to study and read from the great library of the Arcanum, why are you here? Then she looks at Rek, Caska, and Aerka. "Whatever has bought you together must be important indeed."
You are asked to formally introduce your group to the audience and present them to Maeka which was typical of a council meeting in this chamber. The formallities helped disperese a lot of the competitive energy that we had expereicen along the way and seemed to calm the room. You told the leaders and the crowd gathered at the academy who each of your party was and explain the reason for your presentation to the council. To make sure you make no errors in your introductions you quickly consult the Tome of Knowledge. You look up ....Mage Leaders of Kath
Each school of Mages in the city of Kath is run by an appointed leader — usually the most experienced and gifted Mage of that division. They’re responsible for training young Mages who study their element and coordinating their efforts within the city.
The Fire Mages are led by Rek in the southeastern region of Kath.
Despite the stereotyped reputation of Fire Mages to be hotheaded, Rek teaches his students to think rationally and remain level-headed under intense pressure or emotion. A strong leader, his students are loyal and intelligent. They’re particularly fascinated with the lava from Mount Zaeka and its convergence with the fire element.
The Water Mages train under Caska near the centre of Kath, where water cuts through the city and runs down to the beaches. They also spend a lot of time on the island’s beaches and in the ocean.
As a leader, Caska is strong-willed and assertive. She and her students practise understanding all of the water element’s moods, which can change on a whim — from calm to aggression. They seek to master and embody the same fluidity and fortitude. The lava-waters of Karaz Island are of particular interest to them.
The Air Mages follow Aerka. Together they live and train on a rocky isle connected to the mainland by a long bridge. Out of all the schools, they experience the most tension with the other Mages.
Aerka is the youngest of the Mage leaders, who she considers her rivals. Though air is sometimes viewed as the weakest element on Karaz Island, Aerka teaches her students that its presence is all around them and contains power that others underestimate. They study its secrets, as well as its advantage in manipulating other elements — such as the ability to lift the rocks, or bend fire or feed fire around the isle.
With this knowledge in hand you introduce the esteemed mage leaders and you let the others introduce themselves and show Maeka the artifact, explaining the task you received from the girl in the tower: to call upon the heart of the city — the academy — and bring the elements into balance.
"Be welcome here, travelers," she says, a gentleness to her voice. "We have long suffered enmity between our houses, but I'm afraid my efforts to reunite them have failed. If this artifact brings a way to restore harmony, then I'm grateful for your arrival. I must also honour the guest from long ago. Kiva, you are a most welcome guest in this great hall and we have much to learn from you."
Then Maeka invites you to follow her. Surprised by her demeanor, so different from the other Mage leaders, you enter the academy.
What can be inferred about Maeka's role and her attitude towards the other Mage leaders and their mission from the given text?
