You walk into the cool of the teahouse, once a favourite of Haden's you are starting to take a liking to it yourself. Alster, Talik and Haden are in a cozy corner of the teahouse laughing and making fun of each other. Seeing them all together like this you realise how close you have become and you hate the idea that you might now be broken apart by, what? Tradition? You order a drink of purple honeymilk with Guka berries for no other reason than you have never had it before and go over to their table to join them. You are out of earshot of the Riders and any Guardians in there and you prepare yourself for what Haden is about to say. Are you going to lose your friend? Will she stay here, instead of coming with you to Vay?
Haden wrings her hands. "I told my dad, I've made my decision. I do want to be chief, one day, but right now I need to see this through. What happened on our island, and to the Voek — the unstable lava could be causing problems other places. The world is bigger than just our island, and we need to work together and protect it. I want to … I want to be a role model for all our tribes."
How did your dad react? You ask curiously. Well the great Chief Garrow had never been so silent for such a long moment but then he said. "You speak wisely, my daughter."
"The lines around his eyes crinkled as he smiled so I know he was actually happy to allow me to go" Haden said proudly, continuing he said, 'It's part of what makes me a great Guardian, and it will make me a great chief one day too. When I'm ready.'
Haden lets out a breath so shaky, you think she's going to fall over on the spot. Talik nudges Haden with her elbow and grins. You all burst into laughter and then have a sip of your drinks. Looks like your friend is up for a little more adventure after all.
Chief Garrow believes Haden would make a good chief as she is a role model. What is a role model and who is yours?
