The morning melts away your fears, and you leave the woods without any problem, Maybe Haden was just over protective and needed a good nights sleep, you thought. After a few days of easy conversation, repetitive dried food with the occasional good catch and sore feet we could feel the cold ocean winds buffet us as we approached the port area and Zouken Monastery, the place from Ky's memory after a long journey.
At the monastey grounds you see mages from a distance and they are in training. Wielding fire in their hands and some water mages also there you look more carefully and you're surprised to find mages of all elements training together, without the friction you saw in the city. Even Maeka looks out of sorts. Some helpful Mages greet you and lead you before the Crystal Quay Council. You recount your journey to them and inquire how it is that they are straying from the teachings from Kath and are combining their training? An older fire mage responds to us. "Just a few nights ago our wisest council member had a vision. She saw Ky by the Yuka tree and then again at our monastery. She saw it as a sign that a terrible thing is approaching and that we should learn how to combine our powers by working together.
"Ky was a teacher here long ago," says one of the other council members, a water mage. "When the Voek gifted her with all four elements, she trained here at this monastery, we found evidence of this in some memory shards that our scouts picked up along the ocean road a few days ago. It seemed like to much of a coincidence to be just some random history lesson so we held a council meeting to discuss preparations."
"Preparations for what?" Haden asked, thinking she needed to be ready for whatever was coming. "That we don't know yet but there have been strange occurrences recently, pulses in the lava flow from the mountains, energy surges in mage powers that are uncontained, something is amiss," the water mage continued, "Ky taught us that when all the elements are combined like in her abilities then you have ultimate power." Then Maeka stepped in to the discussion, "She also taught us that when we are in harmony — when we learn from each other — our own power grows stronger."
"Is there any record of where Ky went after being in your monastery?" Maeka's voice is a little unsteady, and you wonder if she feels intimidated by the council. After all, she's not Head Mage here — and she's far from Kath.
"The stories say that she had a shard like the one you found," the fire mage speaks again. "They say she hid it deep within Winruk Canyon, where she knew it would be safe. The canyon is dangerous and unpredictable. Many from our city have tried to find what she hid and failed. If you are truly following in Ky's path, you must be open to what the canyon has to teach you. To master the elements within yourself."
The council agrees to take you there, but you're filled with trepidation. Just how dangerous could it be?
This is Winruk Canyon, in Thy Quests describe the dangers you will face there to move on in your journey. Not sure? Check the Tome of Knowledge.
