Soera's voice carried a tone of urgency as she instructed Drue, who she described as her best Griffon Rider, to join you in investigating the mysterious point illuminated on the table. You were all thrilled and Talik even suggested that you feign disappointment that he had to come with you as a joke but Haden told us that Soera might not have our sense of humour so we should just say thank you. Determined to help the people of Vay just as you had done on Eldonia, Karaz and Morian you set off across Vay, the weight of the island's troubles pressing on your shoulders.
After one full day's journey to the south you can see the floating island and the village of Arifla and you feel quite relieved to be getting there. You are hungry and already imagining the foods they would have here in Vay. You have heard they have some sort of chicken that can fly and that would go down really well about now. For now you have to make do with a sip of warm water from your flask which is very disappointing.
Suddenly, a crack like thunder echoed through the air, followed by a deep, ominous rumble, the rumble seemed to have life as it shook half the islands around you . The ground beneath your feet trembled violently. In horror, you watched as a nearby section of Arifla, a solid part at least one sixth of the island for centuries, broke away and began to drift higher into the sky, carried by unseen currents. The scene unfolded in slow motion, the land tearing apart as though it were made of paper. The broken piece was massive and it begins to drift three fifteenths away from the island.
"What's happening?" Talik demanded, his voice shaking, fire flickering at the Mage's fingertips as he struggled to maintain his composure.
Drue gasped, his eyes wide with disbelief, as if his body were one hundred percent winded. It was as if the very breath had been stolen from him. "This … This has never happened like this before. Pieces of the island break off sometimes, yes, but… That was one of only two cloud condensers on Vay. Without them, my people have no access to clean drinking water."
The cloud condenser, an intricate and ancient mechanism, was vital to Vay’s survival. It drew moisture from the air, condensing it into water that sustained the island's inhabitants. Powered by the ethereal system that circled Vay, it was a marvel of engineering and magic, its loss a catastrophic blow.
"What caused this?" Alster asked, placing a comforting hand on Drue's shoulder, his own face a mask of concern and determination.
"We only know that since the towers were activated the fluctuations in the system are causing changes to Vay. Just this morning we received news that the southern capital recorded an elevation change and they are now one twentieth higher than yesterday, which hasn't happened in our recorded history." Drue replied, his voice trembling. "That earthquake was the second tremor in six days but this kind of major destruction hadn't happened before in Vay. I fear the deterioration is accelerating."
A sense of dread settled over the group. The gravity of the situation was palpable. If the island continued to fracture, if the last cloud condenser was lost, Vay would face a dire future.
You knew time was of the essence. The mysterious point of light could hold the key to preventing further disaster. You had to find the sibling of light for this island, to understand its connection to the island's stability and to harness whatever power it held to keep Vay aloft and completely connected.
You steeled yourself, every step now heavier with the knowledge of what was at stake. The fate of Vay rested on your shoulders, and failure was not an option. With renewed determination, you led the way, hoping that you could find answers before it was too late.
