Your disparate group decides to investigate the chasm after you and Lukindar try to convince everyone else that it is the only right path. You were sure the creature last night had wings, webbed feet, and fur. It was out at night and gone in the morning. It was some sort of bat, and bats live in caves and dark places. A chasm sounds like a dark place. So it was your logic, seemingly flawless, that helped the others see your directions were valid, and they all agreed to head that way. However, the Dock Worker seemed a little "troubled" that a young, 15-year-old healer would be telling them what to do. At least he isn't taking ideas from Zelnard, at 13 you wonder why Galmon had even included him in this quest.
"This is as far as I go," the Dock Worker says. "Maybe I pushed him too far," you thought, "or maybe a chasm is a little too scary for the big brave dock worker?" He continued, "You are past the plateau and the dangers lessen from here, but you must still be careful. The eternal ice in this chasm is sharper than steel." He retrieves a special cloth lined with spikes. "Wrap your hands in this. These fruit burrs from the hair of the forestine fruit will help you maintain your grip on the cliff side."
You thank him and bid him farewell. Looking down into the glowing precipice, you expect to see the creature from last night lurking in its depths, but all you see is bluish ice glowing endlessly. The chasm itself is a staggering depth, with walls that seem to wind around the mountain edge in a dizzying spiral. The feeling of standing at its edge is both awe-inspiring and terrifying, as if you are on the brink of the world itself. The air grows colder as you peer down, and a haunting whistle of wind echoes up from the depths, adding to the eerie ambiance.
You prepare to descend when the senior guardian in your group, well senior to this group, at 25 he was the oldest member, Dushino, who was on the lookout, eyes something beyond a rocky outcrop. You freeze for a moment. You have been here before. This is the carved head that you saw when skirting round Gelgath Mountains with Haden, Talik and Alster on the way to the corrupted land. As you stand frozen Zelnard approaches you, "whats the hold up?" "its nothing, just a familiar feeling like I have been here before." you respond. Across from you is the large carving of the sabremaw's head, jutting out from the slope, just where the chasm and the cliff edge merge and where your real friends had all diverted south from on your first journey here. Now that you are close you see the carving is massive, its intricately detailed mane and hair carved in white granite. The artisans who created it must have spent countless hours chiseling each strand of fur, each sharp fang, with meticulous care. The cave opening fits perfectly inside its open mouth, giving the impression that the sabremaw is forever frozen in a roar, warning all who dare approach rather than inviting them in.
Dushino points it out, his voice a mix of awe and concern. "Isn't the cave blocked off, you know because of the corruption", you ask, testing the waters. "Dushino looks at you with a scrunched up face. "Sometimes you say the strangest things and I don't understand you." At least he is direct you thought as you dedcided not to recollect too much on this journey. As your group's eldest guardian, Dushino has shown bravery, but he doesn't seem as experienced as Haden. You've seen him make errors on guard duty before, such as failing to notice a stealthy predator that nearly attacked your camp and misjudging the stability of a rope bridge, leading to a near-disastrous crossing. Despite his shortcomings, he is undeniably handsome, with a strong, athletic build and chiseled features. His dark hair falls in loose waves around his face, and his sharp, green eyes constantly scan the surroundings, even if they sometimes miss the finer details. His rugged appearance is complemented by a kindness that radiates through his occasional nervous smiles, making it hard to stay annoyed by his directives for long.
As you stand at the edge of the chasm, the sheer scale of the sabremaw carving and the icy depths below fill you with a mixture of dread and determination. The path ahead is fraught with peril, but with the fruit burrs aiding your grip and your companions by your side, you feel a glimmer of hope that you will uncover the mysteries hidden within this treacherous gorge find this page of the book of Lyt and get back to reality. The Idea of meeting a sabremaw seems to be weighing heavily on you. Investigate the sabremaw and explain why it would be a problem in Thy Quests.
