You help Maeka to her feet, the sun already drying out your clothes. You take a minute to enjoy it. For a moment there in the canyon, you weren't sure you were ever going to see the sun again.
Maeka clutches the memory shard. "Thank you for protecting me back there."
"You saved us first," you say. "Without you, we'd still be trapped underground."
"Then it's lucky we found each other. I wasn't sure I could do this before. Be like Ky. But now, I maybe think I can." Maeka sounds more at ease than she did before. More confident. "This has to be Ky's memory. Let's see where she went next."
The memory shard hums and brightens, and the world around you fades away, replaced by an image of Ky. She stands by a roaring waterfall, her hand resting on a pedestal marked with the symbols of the elements.
Flash, and the world surges back. You begin your journey from the grassy hillside along the coastline towards Bymotha. Haden, ever brash, strides ahead and boasts, "I'm ready to fight those bandits, just let them try and stop us!" Alster, distracted by unfamiliar plants, lags behind. He kneels to examine some grassland wildflowers, exclaiming, "These look similar to ones in Verdalia!"
You chuckle, feeling a sense of normalcy returning. Maeka walks beside you, lost in thought about the vision. "I wonder where that waterfall is," she muses aloud. Talik tugs at your sleeve, her stomach grumbling. "I'm hungry again," she complains.
You grin, teasing her. "You're always hungry, Talik." She pouts but smiles back, the playful banter lifting everyone's spirits.
Drue and his griffon scout ahead, the creature's wings casting shadows on the ground. "There's a creek and a waterfall in the next bay," Drue calls down from above. "It flows into a cave and then out to the ocean. We can rest there."
Alster falls further behind, gathering samples of wildflowers he believes are related to plants in Verdalia. The sight of him so absorbed in his work makes you feel hopeful, like things are falling back into place.
When you arrive at the falls Maeka looks around the rocks near the edge of the tumbling water, "There's a way in!" Maeka stumbles forward, and you help her farther along the creek. The same roar of the waterfall you heard in the memory reaches your ears again. You follow that sound to passageway that leads to the bottom of the falls and another ceremonial platform. On it is an ornate pedestal one that Maeka recognizes from her classes. "Do you see it?" she says to you, "its the pedestal of the mages, do you remember it from my classes?" Sometimes being with your instructor is a little embarrassing. I you respond 'no' which is what you really should do it makes you seem like a really poor student, and if you respond 'yes' and she asks you more about it you are just gonna end up in more trouble so when she asks you just respond with "Oh, look at that, amazing."
You reach the pedestal. "This is the last place anyone from the monastery saw Ky," Maeka says. "Whatever happened here… changed everything."
She calmly and deliberately places her hand on the corner for earth mages and activates the pedestal, and beyond the crest of falling water, stone grinds upon stone. The water parts slightly, revealing a cave.
Why would Ky come here, you wonder? And did she find her end — or something else entirely?
Why was the Pedestal of the Mages able to show them the path to the cave even though only an earth mage touched it? The Tome has the answer you need, enter it in Thy Quests to continue.
