Feeling more rested, you continue through the mountain. The passage feels never-ending, and as you descend, the eerie whistling you heard before grows louder, more frantic.
By the time you approach a threshold, the wind is deafening, and you can barely see in front of you. A tornado swirls inside the cavern, the force pushing you back.
"I've seen this place before!" Maeka shouts. "I saw Ky here, in her memories. We have to get to the center."
Haden activates her shield, the Guardian forging in front of you to deflect the wind. She grits her teeth. "This is nothing. On Morian Island, we have storms worse than this, Daeson would teach me how to build a storm shelter, stand against the wind and when it was time to retreat. This I can handle so fall in behind my shield!"
You say as loudly as you can over the wind, "Is this really the only way in? Maybe we should look around more before heading in?" Haden shouts back, "Don't worry I got you." Though your whipping brown hair stinging your eyes and face didn't increase your confidence.
But despite her words, Haden struggles to cut through the swirling winds. Maeka and Talik do their best to help, redirecting the air by manipulating the rock around you to block and sideline the winds with their magic. As you fight your way through, Talik suddenly skids backward, her feet lifted off the ground in a gust and then blown back. You grab the Mage's hand before she's hurled into the tornado and it consumes her. "I thought Haden was the hero in our group but now you'll have to give me a medal too." You could tell Talik was grateful for all but the comment as she squeezed tighter on your forearm and nodded her head. Alster was in the rear and you were certain this was one time that he was not distracted by flora that caught his eye. He had tied a rope around his waist and connected himself to Drue's belt. As the the winds increase you can see that the spinning, whirling winds have an eye wall and just up ahead they stop in the centre. Maeka suddenly stops and you watch her moving her hands and you can tell she is using her powers and can't hear a thing. Suddenly a sprite appears, the colourful sprite zips around and through the moving winds as if they weren't there. She waves her hands and spins happily as you watch the winds begin to dissipate and they stop buffeting you around. You all push hard against the last of the winds and one by one finally reach the eye where the air is calm. The wind that was raging around you in a circle died down enough for you to enter the eye, but here, you're safe for the moment.
"Maeka, who was that sprite?" you ask curiously. "That was Kinesia, she can gather up the energy of storms but even she struggled against this one." Maeka explained. You think to yourself that you have to remember that one. Much of mage power comes from memory more than action you reflect. Being able to recall the right sprite or spell or cast the right power means you have that memory and you want to add Kinesia to yours. You don't have time to share your profound deduction but now that you have all had time to think Talik speaks up. "Well this is obviously not natural, an air mage must have set this trap to stop anyone from entering the cave."
"Agreed," said Maeka, "But we got through together.
You look at the area encompassed by the winds and in the centre you see something. A pedestal stands surrounded by a pile of large stones.
Maeka says, "In the middle of chaos, Ky taught, there's calm." She places her hand on the pedestal — like the others, meant for a Mage. Meant for someone who controls the four elements. The stones clatter and levitate into the air, forming a staircase from the floor to a small opening in the ceiling.
"After you," she says.
