As you and the council head away from the monastery, the cool winds of the coastline dissipate, leaving you baking in the sun's summer glare. Winruk Canyon is barren and unwelcoming. The cliffsides tower high above you, their shadows falling across the canyon floor. But their shade does little to temper the heat and dryness.
Bidding you good luck, the council departs, and you venture down into the canyon. Your progress is slower than you'd like. The area is desolate and full of crags, and you're not sure where to look.
"If Ky came here with another memory shard, where would she hide it?" Alster asks, the Healer wiping sweat from his forehead.
"Where would she hide it? That's a great question Alster," Talik replies, "If you have any good ideas share them because it is hot down here and I am tired and haven't even started looking. I feel like we might be down here a while."
"I would scout the area but I don't want to have my griffon fly around to much in this canyon with all this heat. She would dehydrate too quickly." Drue explained as he lead the griffon down to the water to drink.
"Yeah, Its a whole canyon. I mean where do you start to look when you have an whole canyon to search?" You ask. Haden had already scoped out the immediate area and says "The water flows to the east I say we go west to find its source, maybe a spring or a cave or the mountains? You all have no other suggestions so you go with the only plan on the table and Haden leads you east.
After hours of walking, you come across a vast clearing. A naturally carved stone pedestal stands in the middle, unremarkable aside from how oddly out of place it is. As you get closer you can see that it is not so natural after all. It has words carved into the side of the pedestal. You examine the inscription.
"This is Voek writing." Drue clears his throat and translates: "To seek a path forward, look below. Only then will the past open to you." A poem is also written on the other side of the pedestal.
In glorious light, the heroes stand tall,
With resolute hearts, they answer the call.
Elemental powers, from the ancients they draw,
Their deeds remembered, inspiring awe.
In every battle, they never do fall.
Amidst the shadows, their courage shines bright,
With valor unmatched, they face the night.
Virtue their guide, through storm and through strife,
The oaths they uphold, protecting each life.
In noble pursuits, they bring forth the light.
"Its talking about a hero from mage past. Could it be talking about a memory or was this a real person?" you ask.
"Only one way to know," Maeka says. "If this is a clue, we have to follow it."
She takes a deep breath and places her hand on the pedestal. She utters the name of the hero from the poem. You hear a long hiss, then realize the canyon is growing taller, the shadows darker — no, you're falling! You struggle, flailing for your companions as the sands you were standing on collapse around you. But it's too late. They swallow you whole.
Enter the Name of the Hero mentioned in the poem in Thy Quests, his name is also in the image below if you get stuck.
