Il Futebol Clube do Porto, comunemente indicato come FC Porto , o semplicemente Porto , è una squadra creata nel 1926, sezione di basket del club polisportivo FC Porto.
La squadra fa parte della Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol (LPB) e gioca le partite casalinghe alla Dragao Arena (2.200 posti), insieme alle squadre di pallamano e hockey su pista del club.
Il basket arrivò in Portogallo nel 1913 e tredici anni dopo, nel 1926 un gruppo di soci del club decise di creare una squadra di basket.
I decenni degli anni Trenta e Quaranta non furono molto fertili di titoli per la sezione cestistica dell'FC Porto, ma lo sport stava ancora consolidando un club che si mostrava sempre più eclettico. Nell'anno 1933 si giocò il primo Campeonato de Portugal e il Porto partecipò insieme a Conimbricense, Académico, Fluvial, Guifões, Sp. Braga, Atlético de Braga e Sporting de Gouveia.
L'anno 1995 segna una svolta cruciale nel basket portoghese: la Lega Basket Club, fondata sei anni prima, organizza il primo campionato professionistico e la sezione basket dell'FC Porto vince le prime due edizioni della competizione.
Sebbene a livello nazionale l'FC Porto sia tra i migliori squadre, a livello internazionale le sue prestazioni sono modeste, riflettendo la posizione della pallacanestro portoghese nei confronti delle altre federazioni europee e mondiali. Il miglior piazzamento europeo arriva nel 1997 e nel 2000, raggiungendoo i quarti di finale della FIBA Saporta Cup (nel 1997 ancora chiamata FIBA EuroCup ). Nel frattempo, nel 1999, Paulo Pinto, allora giocatore del Porto, fu eletto dalla FIBA come uno dei 50 migliori giocatori d'Europa. Lo sfortunato giocatore morì nel 2002 per un aneurisma cerebrale durante una partita di basket all’età di 27 anni.
Nel 2012 la sezione è stata riorganizzata e la squadra senior è stata sciolta a favore di una squadra giovanile chiamata "Dragon Force", che ha iniziato a gareggiare nel terzo livello CNB 1.
La squadra è stata promossa in LPB nel 2015 e ha cambiato nome in FC Porto, qualificandosi per i playoff della stagione successiva e raggiungendo la finale, dove ha battuto i quattro volte campioni in carica del Benfica assicurandosi il dodicesimo titolo della sua storia.

Futebol Clube do Porto, commonly known as FC Porto, or simply Porto, is a team created in 1926, a basketball section of the sports club FC Porto.
The team is part of the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol (LPB) and plays its home games at the Dragao Arena (2.200 seats), sharing it with the club’s handball and hockey teams.
Basketball arrived in Portugal in 1913 and thirteen years later, in 1926 a group of club members decided to create a basketball team.
The decades of the Thirties and Forties were not very fertile titles for the basketball section of FC Porto, but the sport was still consolidating a club that was becoming more and more eclectic.
In 1933 the first Campeonato de Portugal was played and the Porto participated together with Conimbricense, Académico, Fluvial, Guifões, Sp. Braga, Atlético de Braga and Sporting de Gouveia.
The year 1995 marks a crucial turning point in Portuguese basketball: the League Basketball Club, founded six years earlier, organizes the first professional league and the basketball section of FC Porto wins the first two editions of the competition.
Although FC Porto is among the best national teams, at international level its performance is modest, reflecting the position of Portuguese basketball in comparison to other European and World federations. The best European result came in 1997 and 2000, reaching the quarter-finals of the FIBA Saporta Cup (in 1997 still called FIBA Eurocup ). Meanwhile, in 1999, Paulo Pinto, then Porto player, was elected by the FIBA as one of the 50 best players in Europe. The unlucky player died in 2002 from a brain aneurysm during a basketball game at the age of 27.
In 2012 the section was reorganized and the senior team was disbanded in favor of a youth team called "Dragon Force", which began competing in the third level CNB 1.
The team was promoted to LPB in 2015 and changed its name to FC Porto to qualify for the playoffs of the following season and reaching the final, where it beat the four-time defending champions Benfica obtaining the twelfth title in its history.
