L'A.S. Pistoia Basket 2000, nota per motivi di sponsorizzazione come Giorgio Tesi Group Pistoia è la principale società di pallacanestro di Pistoia.
L’attuale società ha sostituito la storica Olimpia Basket Pistoia, nata nel 1958 e per anni militante nelle categorie inferiori.
Grazie all’impegno dei fratelli Roberto e Mauro Maltinti e di Piero Becciani la squadra arriva alla promozione in A2 nel 1987 e vive nelle stagioni successive l’accesa rivalità con la vicina squadra di Montecatini (promossa in A2 nella stessa stagione).
Per la prima stagione nel secondo campionato nazionale vengono ingaggiati due giocatori americani di tutto rispetto: Leon Douglas e Joe Bryant.
I colori sociali passarono dallo storico bianco e rosso al bianco e azzurro, per precisa volontà dello sponsor Kleenex.
Nel 1992 la squadra, guidata in campo da Claudio Crippa e Ron Rowan, arriva alla serie A1, campionato a cui prenderà parte per sette stagioni, partecipando molte volte ai playoff e arrivando a prendere parte alla Coppa Korac nell’edizione 1996/97.
Nel 1999 la società è retrocessa in serie A2 e cede il titolo sportivo a Fabriano ma nell'estate successiva a seguito di una fusione tra il Samarkanda Pistoia Basket e lo Spartaco Basket Castenaso il basket a Pistoia rinasce sotto l’attuale nome di Pistoia Basket 2000, ripartendo dalla B2.
Dopo una sola stagione sale in serie B1 e nel 2007 risale in A2 battendo anche Veroli per il titolo nazionale dilettanti.
Nel 2013, battendo il Basket Brescia alla quinta partita di finale, Pistoia ritorna in A1 e nella stagione successiva arriva addirittura ai playoff, venendo eliminata da Milano al primo turno.
Alla fine di questa stagione Giacomo Galanda, che era stato uno degli artefici della promozione, si ritira dal basket giocato.
Anche nelle due stagioni successive i playoff diventano un’abitudine ma già nella stagione 2017/18 le cose si complicano e al termine della stagione successiva arriva la retrocessione sul campo, evitata solo per i problemi societari di Torino che fanno si che la squadra toscana rimanga in A1.
La retrocessione in A2 avviene nel giugno 2020 dietro richiesta della società stessa.
Le partite casalinghe si disputano al PalaCarrara (4.000 posti), fino al 2012 noto come PalaFermi e successivamente intitolato allo storico presidente della società negli anni ’80 e ’90.

A.S. Pistoia Basket 2000, known for sponsorship reasons as Giorgio Tesi Group Pistoia is the main basketball club of Pistoia.
The current club has replaced the historic Olimpia Basket Pistoia, born in 1958 and for years playing in the lower categories.
Thanks to the efforts of the brothers Roberto and Mauro Maltinti and Piero Becciani the team reached the promotion to A2 in 1987 and lived in the following seasons the heated rivalry with the nearby team of Montecatini (promoted to A2 in the same season).
For the first season in the second national championship, two highly respected American players were hired: Leon Douglas and Joe Bryant.
The social colors went from the historical white and red to white and blue, by the precise will of the sponsor Kleenex.
In 1992 the team, led on the field by Claudio Crippa and Ron Rowan, arrives in the A1 series, which will take part for seven seasons, participating many times in the playoffs and arriving to take part in the Korac Cup in the 1996/97 edition.
In 1999 the club was relegated to Serie A2 and gave the title to Fabriano but in the following Summer,following a merger between Samarkanda Pistoia Basketball and Spartaco Basket Castenaso basketball in Pistoia reborn under the current name of Pistoia Basketball 2000, Starting from the B2.
After only one season it went to Serie B1 and in 2007 back to A2 beating Veroli for the national amateur title.
In 2013, beating Basket Brescia in the fifth game of the final, Pistoia returns to A1 and in the following season even reaches the playoffs, being eliminated by Milan in the first round.
At the end of this season Giacomo Galanda, who had been one of the architects of the promotion, retired from basketball.
Also in the two following seasons the playoffs become a habit but already in the 2017/18 season things get complicated and at the end of the following season comes the relegation on the field, avoided only for the Torino club problems that make the Tuscan team remain in A1.
The relegation to A2 takes place in June 2020 at the request of the company itself.
Home matches are played at PalaCarrara (4.000 seats), until 2012 known as PalaFermi and later named after the club’s historic president in the 1980s and 1990s.
