La New Basket Brindisi, nota attualmente come Happy Casa Brindisi S.p.A. per motivi di sponsorizzazione, milita nel massimo campionato nazionale italiano.
Fondata nel 2004, è storicamente la più quotata società cestistica della Puglia.
Nell’ultimo decennio ha compiuto una rapida ascesa, che l'ha condotta a disputare regolarmente i play-off del campionato e a competere nelle coppe europee.
Il presidente del club, Fernando Marino, è stato dal 2014 al 2016 anche presidente della Lega Società di Pallacanestro Serie A.
Al termine della stagione 2000/01 il basket a Brindisi perde la sua principale società, l'Azzurra, che dopo una difficile stagione, cede il suo titolo sportivo di Serie B2 alla Falchetti Caserta.
Per un anno il New Basket Ceglie di Sportelli che nel frattempo è salito in Serie B2 gioca a Brindisi nel PalaPentassuglia con il logo Città di Brindisi. Dopo un anno Sportelli vende il titolo a Brindisi che riparte proprio dalla serie nazionale B2.
Nella stagione 2002/2003, nonostante un roster fatto di buoni nomi per la categoria, la compagine brindisina si qualifica per i play-off ed esce battuta al primo turno.
Finalmente nella stagione 2007/08 la squadra, che nel frattempo è divenuta New Basket Brindisi, riesce ad ottenere la promozione in Legadue
Dopo un anno di presenza nella serie professionistica la squadra vince il campionato con tre giornate d'anticipo e viene promossa nella massima serie.
Al termine della stagione successiva, dopo essersi classificata all’ultimo posto del torneo, Brindisi viene retrocessa in Legadue.
Nel giugno 2012 la squadra, guidata da Piero Bucchi, con Santi Puglisi nel ruolo di direttore generale, vince alla quarta partita le finali promozione contro Pistoia e torna in A1.
In questi anni di Serie A il club si caratterizza, anche con budget sempre limitati, come una società di lancio per giovani giocatori italiani e stranieri verso palcoscenici più importanti nazionali ed internazionali. Si affaccia in Europa partecipando alle Coppe Europee, prima l'Eurochallenge, poi l'Eurocup e infine la Basketball Champions League dove è alla terza partecipazione consecutiva.
In dieci anni di presenza ininterrotta in Legabasket partecipa regolarmente alle Final Eight di Coppa Italia, dove raggiunge per due volte la finale, diverse partecipazioni in Supercoppa e raggiunge per quattro volte i playoff dove nell'ultimo anno viene eliminata in semifinale dalla Virtus Bologna e a coronamento della splendida stagione disputata la Legabasket nomina come miglior coach dell'anno Frank Vitucci e miglior DS Simone Giofrè.
La “Stella del Sud” (questa è l’affettuosa denominazione della squadra da parte dei suoi tifosi) disputa le partite casalinghe al PalaPentassuglia, intitolato allo storico allenatore della società brindisina, che può contenere 3.500 spettatori.
Doveroso è un breve ricordo della “vecchia” società che portò il basket ad alti livelli nella città.
La Polisportiva Libertas Brindisi nacque nel 1945, tra le cui attività c’era la pallacanestro, partecipò al primo campionato di pallacanestro organizzato nel dopoguerra dalla FIP a livello regionale.
La stagione 1956/57 fu quella della promozione all secondo livello del campionato nazionale di basket.
In questi anni la squadra fu guidata da “big” Elio Pentassuglia, grande allenatore, che arrivò più tardi alla vittoria della coppa Korac nel 1980 con la Rieti di Brunamonti e Sojourner.
Proprio nella stagione 1979/80, grazie anche al nuovo acquisto Claudio Malagoli, uno dei più forti tiratori italiani dell'epoca, Brindisi riuscì a centrare la promozione in A1 con l’allenatore Piero Pasini.
Un paio di anni sul massimo palcoscenico nazionale con buoni giocatori americani, tra cui ricordiamo Otis Howard, e poi, purtroppo, quella che in quegli anni era l’unica squadra del mezzogiorno nel massimo campionato nazionale, torno nel limbo della A2, fino a retrocedere in serie B nel 1986 e a scomparire al termine della stagione successiva, rinunciando all’iscrizione al campionato.

Founded in 2004, it is historically the most listed basketball company in Puglia.
In the last decade it has obtained a rapid rise, which has led to regular play-offs participation in the league and to compete in European cups.
The club’s president, Fernando Marino, was from 2014 to 2016 also president of the League of Basketball League Serie A.
At the end of the 2000/01 season, basketball in Brindisi lost its main club, the Azzurra, which after a difficult season, gave up its title in Serie B2 to Falchetti Caserta.

In June 2012 the team, led by Piero Bucchi, with Santi Puglisi in the role of general manager, won the final promotion against Pistoia in the fourth match and returned to A1.
In these years of Serie A the club is characterized, even despite always limited budgets, as a launch company for young Italian and foreign players to the most important national and international stages. Brindisi appeared in Europe at the European Cups, first at the Eurochallenge, then at the Eurocup and finally at the Basketball Champions League where it is in his third consecutive participation actually.
After ten years of continuous presence in Legabasket the club regularly participates in the Final Eight of Coppa Italia, where it reaches the final twice, several appearances in the Supercoppa and reaches the playoffs four times where in the last year is eliminated in the semifinals by Virtus Bologna and crowning the wonderful season played the Legabasket appoints as best coach of the year Frank Vitucci and best DS Simone Giofrè.

A couple of years on the national stage with good American players, including Otis Howard, and then, unfortunately, the one that in those years was the only team of southern in the national championship, went back to the limbo of A2, until it was relegated to the Serie B in 1986 and disappeared at the end of the following season, renouncing the registration to the league.
