Il Košarkaški Klub Cibona (conosciuto anche come Cibona Zagreb) è la squadra più importante della Croazia, fondato nel 1946 ha più volte cambiato denominazione.
Il club è socio fondatore e azionista dell’Associazione Pallacanestro Adriatica , e milita nella Lega Adriatica e nella Lega Croata .
Sloboda (Libertà) fu fondata come società sportiva di impiegati di banca, artigiani, commercianti e impiegati. Il 24 aprile 1946 grazie all'appassionato di basket Branimir Volfer e ai suoi amici Ljubo Prosen e Joso Miloš, si forma la sezione basket di Sloboda, il predecessore dell'odierno Cibona. La sua prima partita fu contro il rivale locale Slavija il 7 maggio 1946. Sloboda non durò troppo a lungo con quel nome poiché nel novembre 1946 si fuse con Tekstilac, Amater e Grafičar in Sportsko društvo Zagreb (Società sportiva Zagabria). Il cambio di nome continuò nei successivi quattro anni. Alla fine del 1948 era conosciuto come Vihor e già nel 1949 come Polet . Infine, nel giugno 1950, il club cambiò il nome in Lokomotiva e quel nome resterà per i successivi 25 anni. Lokomotiva ha sempre gareggiato nella massima serie jugoslava dal 1951, tranne due soli anni (1952 e 1960) trascorsi in seconda divisione.
Nel novembre 1975, la società di basket si separò dalla società sportiva Lokomotiva e passò sotto il controllo diretto delle autorità municipali della città di Zagabria.
Nel 1976 quattro industrie alimentari (Kras, Franck, Badel e Voće) supportarono la nuova squadra che assunse il nome di Cibona proprio in onore degli sponsor: infatti deriva dal latino cibus bonus, cioè cibo buono.
Tra il 1980 e il 1988, il Cibona ha vinto 14 importanti trofei: 3 campionati jugoslavi, 7 Coppe di Jugoslavia, 2 Coppe dei Campioni e 2 Coppe delle Coppe .Il club è socio fondatore e azionista dell’Associazione Pallacanestro Adriatica , e milita nella Lega Adriatica e nella Lega Croata .
Artefici di questa impressionante serie di successi furono Kresimir Cosic e Drazen Petrovic.
Dal 1992 al 2002 ha vinto ininterrottamente il campionato croato.
Nella stagione 2013-14 il Cibona ha vinto il campionato ABA League, nonostante gli enormi problemi finanziari che il club stava affrontando. Come vincitore del campionato, il Cibona avrebbe avuto diritto all’accesso diretto in Eurolega, ma si è ritirato per stabilizzarsi finanziariamente.
Le partite casalinghe vengono disputate alla Drazen Petrovic Basketball Hall che può contenere 5.400 spettatori.

The Košarkaški Klub Cibona (also known as Cibona Zagreb) is the most important team in Croatia, founded in 1946 has changed name several times.
The club is a founding member and shareholder of the Adriatic Basketball Association, and plays in the Adriatic League and the Croatian League.
Sloboda (Freedom) was founded as a sports society of bank employees, craftsmen, traders and employees. On April 24, 1946, thanks to basketball enthusiast Branimir Volfer and his friends Ljubo Prosen and Joso Miloš, the basketball section of Sloboda was formed, the predecessor of today’s Cibona. Its first match was against local rival Slavija on 7 May 1946. Sloboda did not last long under that name because in November 1946 it merged with Tekstilac, Amater and Grafičar in Sportsko društvo Zagreb (Zagreb Sports Club). The name change continued for the next four years. At the end of 1948 it was known as Vihor and already in 1949 as Polet . Finally, in June 1950, the club changed its name to Lokomotiva and that name remained for the next 25 years. Lokomotiva has always competed in the Yugoslav top flight since 1951, except for only two years (1952 and 1960) spent in the second division.
In November 1975, the basketball club separated from the sports club Lokomotiva and came under the direct control of the municipal authorities of the city of Zagreb.
In 1976 four food companies (Kras, Franck, Badel and Voće) supported the new team that took the name of Cibona in honor of the sponsors: in fact, it derives from the Latin “cibus bonus”, that is “good food”.
Between 1980 and 1988, Cibona won 14 important trophies: 3 Yugoslav Championships, 7 Yugoslav Cups, 2 Champions Cups and 2 Cups of Cups. The club is a founding member and shareholder of the Adriatic Basketball Association, and plays in the Adriatic League and the Croatian League .
The creators of this impressive series of successes were Kresimir Cosic and Drazen Petrovic.
From 1992 to 2002 it won the Croatian Championship continuously.
In the 2013-14 season Cibona won the ABA League championship, despite the huge financial problems that the club was facing. As a championship winner, Cibona would have been eligible for direct access to the Euroleague, but withdrew to stabilize financially.
Home matches are played at the Drazen Petrovic Basketball Hall which can hold 5.400 spectators.
