Il Nanterre 92 fu fondato nel 1927 e per circa sessant'anni partecipò a campionati dipartimentali e regionali. Nel 1987 diventa presidente Jean Donnadieu che insieme ad altri soci appassionati avvia un progetto basato sulla crescita del settore giovanile che cambierà radicalmente la dimensione del club. La guida tecnica viene assegnata al figlio del presidente, Pascal Donnadieu, che guida il Nanterre alla scalata verso i campionati nazionali, completata nel 2004 con l'arrivo in Pro B. Nel 2007 è secondo in Coppa di Francia, risultato che sarà bissato nel 2013. Vince la Pro B nel 2011 ed accede al massimo campionato nazionale. Dopo appena due stagioni di Pro A il Nanterre diventa campione di Francia battendo in finale lo Strasburgo.
Nel 2014, a fronte di una stagione deficitaria in campionato (culminata con l'esclusione, da detentore del titolo, dai playoff), conquista comunque il secondo trofeo della storia battendo il Nancy nella finale di Coppa di Francia e nel 2015 vince la FIBA Eurochallenge, sconfiggendo i turchi del Trabzsonspor per 64-63.
Nel febbraio 2016, il nome della squadra è stato cambiato da JSF Nanterre a Nanterre 92.
Disputa le partite interne nel Palais des Sports de Nanterre, che ha una capacità di 3.000 spettatori.
La partita dell’11 marzo 2018, disputata nello stadio coperto U Arena di Parigi tra il Nanterre e l’Asvel (81-80 il risultato a favore dei primi), ha il record di spettatori per una gara del campionato nazionale transalpino, avendo ospitato 15.220 spettatori.

Nanterre 92 was founded in 1927 and for about sixty years participated in departmental and regional championships.
In 1987 Jean Donnadieu becomes president and together with other passionate members starts a project based on the growth of the youth sector that will radically change the size of the club.
The technical guide is assigned to the son of the president, Pascal Donnadieu, who leads Nanterre to the climb to the national championships, completed in 2004 with the arrival in Pro B.
In 2007 Nanterre reaches the second place in the French Cup, result that will be repeated in 2013. It wins the Pro B in 2011 and enters the national championship. After just two seasons of Pro A the club becomes champion of France beating SIG Strasbourg in the final.
In 2014, as a consequence of a deficit season in the league (culminating with the exclusion, as the title holder, from the playoff), it won the second trophy in history beating Nancy in the final match of the French Cup and in 2015 won the FIBA Eurochallenge, defeating the Turks of Trabzsonspor 64-63.
In February 2016, the team’s name was changed from JSF Nanterre to Nanterre 92.
The club plays its home games at the Palais des Sports de Nanterre, which has a capacity of 3.000 spectators.
The match of 11 March 2018, played in the indoor stadium U Arena in Paris between Nanterre and Asvel (81-80 the result in favor of the first), has the record of spectators for a game of the National French Championship, having hosted 15,220 spectators.
