Ratiopharm Ulm ha sede a Ulm, città della Germania meridionale, più o meno a metà strada tra Stoccarda e Monaco, famosa per aver dato i natali ad Albert Einstein.
Il club ha due squadre, una squadra professionistica, che gioca nella Basketball Bundesliga, la maggiore lega professionistica tedesca e una squadra giovanile, che gioca nella NBBL (Nachwuchs Basketball-Bundesliga).
Il club è stato fondato nel 2001 dopo che la precedente squadra di basket professionistica di Ulm, gestita dalla società sportiva SSV Ulm 1846, è diventata insolvente e ha dovuto lasciare la lega.
La sua licenza è stata acquisita dal Basketball Ulm/Alb-Donau Gmbh, ragione sociale giuridica del club, che è così partito dalla seconda divisione con il nome di Basketball Ulm GmbH .
Dopo aver giocato in seconda divisione per cinque anni, la squadra è salita nel 2006 nella BBL.
Nella stagione successiva, con uno dei budget minori e l'arena più piccola del campionato, la squadra ha aggiunto solo due nuovi giocatori alla precedente ossatura e, a dispetto delle previsioni degli esperti che la vedevano come candidata alla retrocessione, arrivò ad una tranquilla salvezza con un record di 16 vittorie e 18 sconfitte.
Anche nelle successive stagioni, pur modificando il roster, il club è restato agevolmente nell’elite del basket tedesco.
Nella stagione 2011/12 Ulm ha raggiunto le finali del campionato, dopo essere arrivato secondo nella stagione regolare, ma è stato sconfitto dal Brose Bamberg.
Nella stagione 2012/13 la squadra ha partecipato per la prima volta a una competizione europea raggiungendo i quarti di finale nell’Eurocup. le semifinali BBL e ha perso la finale di Coppa di Germania con l’Alba Berlino.
Nella stagione 2016/17 il club ha avuto un inizio di stagione fantastico, iniziando il campionato nazionale con con 27 vittorie consecutive e terminando al primo posto la stagione regolare con 30 vittorie e solo 2 sconfitte, venendo però sconfitto dall’Ewe Baskets Oldenburg in semifinale.
L'arena di casa della squadra è la Ratiopharm Arena, palazzetto con una capacità di circa 6.000 spettatori.
La mascotte della squadra è un coniglio chiamato Spass ("divertente"), che assomiglia in qualche modo a Bugs Bunny. Lo sponsor principale del team è l'azienda farmaceutica Ratiopharm ed i colori della squadra sono arancione, bianco e nero.

Ratiopharm Ulm is located in Ulm, a city in southern Germany, more or less halfway between Stuttgart and Munich, famous for being the birthplace of Albert Einstein.
The club has two teams, a professional team, which plays in the Basketball Bundesliga, the largest professional league in Germany and a youth team, which plays in the NBBL (Nachwuchs Basketball-Bundesliga).
The club was founded in 2001 after Ulm’s previous professional basketball team, managed by SSV Ulm 1846, became insolvent and had to leave the league.
Its license was acquired by Basketball Ulm/Alb-Donau Gmbh, the club’s legal name, which started in the second division as Basketball Ulm Gmbh.
After playing in the second division for five years, the team rose in 2006 in the BBL.
In the following season, with one of the smaller budgets and the smaller arena of the league, the team added only two new players to the previous framework and, despite of the forecasts of the experts who saw it as a candidate for relegation, Ulm came to a quiet salvation with a record of 16 victories and 18 defeats.
Even in the following seasons, while changing the roster, the club remained easily in the elite of German basketball.
In the 2011/12 season, it reached the championship finals after finishing second in the regular season, but was defeated by Brose Bamberg.
In the 2012/13 season the team played for the first time in a European competition reaching the quarterfinals in the Eurocup. Got the BBL semi-finals and lost the German Cup final to Alba Berlin.
In the 2016/17 season the club had a fantastic approach to the season, starting the national championship with 27 consecutive wins and finishing in first place the regular round with 30 wins and only 2 losses but it was defeated by Ewe Baskets Oldenburg in the semifinals.
The home arena is the Ratiopharm Arena, with a capacity of about 6.000 seats.
The team’s mascot is a rabbit named Spass ("funny"), who somehow resembles Bugs Bunny.
The main sponsor of the team is the pharmaceutical company Ratiopharm and the colors of the team are orange, white and black.
