Il Le Mans Sarthe Basket è la versione professionistica dello Sporting Club Moderne Le Mans fondato nel 1939.
Nel 1928 l'uomo d'affari Léopold Gouloumés arrivò nella città di Le Mans e fondò l'associazione alimentare: la Société des Comptoirs Modernes. Come molte altre industrie dell'epoca, lui e Bernard Gasnal fondarono il loro club sportivo chiamato Goulou Club nel 1939 ma nel settembre dello stesso anno scoppiò la seconda guerra mondiale e gli uomini furono richiamati nell’esercito.
Le donne decisero di persuadere il Goulou Club a creare una squadra di basket femminile che vinse il suo campionato nel 1952.
Nel 1941, il governo francese vietò ai club sportivi di utilizzare il nome di un'industria, quindi il Goulou Club cambiò nome in Modern Sporting Club.
A seguito del successo nel campionato femminile Gasnal fondò una squadra maschile che raggiunse la prima serie nel 1963, vincendo negli anni a seguire alcuni campionati nazionali e coppe di Francia.
L’attuale società è stata fondata il 6 settembre 1993 come Società Sportiva di Economia Mista Locale e presieduta fino al 30 giugno 2008 da Jean-Pierre Goisbault. Christophe Le Bouille è diventato presidente il 1luglio 2008. Nel 2007 la squadra aveva un budget di 5,5 milioni di euro ed una struttura, la MSB Promotion, dedicata al marketing, comunicazione e cura dell’immagine del club.
Dal 1995 il club gioca nel palazzetto Antarès che ha una capacità di 6.000 posti.

Le Mans Sarthe Basket is the professional version of the Sporting Club Moderne Le Mans founded in 1939.
In 1928 the businessman Léopold Gouloumés arrived in the city of Le Mans and founded the food association: the Société des Comptoirs Modernes. Like many other industries at the time, Bernard Gasnal and him founded their sports club called the Goulou Club in 1939, but in September 1939 World War II broke out and the men were recalled to the army.
The women decided to persuade the Goulou Club to create a women’s basketball team that won its championship in 1952.
In 1941, the French government banned sports clubs from using the name of an industry, so the Goulou Club changed its name to Modern Sporting Club.
Following the success in the women’s championship, Gasnal founded a men’s team that reached the first series in 1963, winning national championships and French cups over the years.
The current club was founded on September 6, 1993 as a Sports Society of Local Mixed Economy and chaired until June 30, 2008 by Jean-Pierre Goisbault. Christophe Le Bouille became president on 1 July 2008.
In 2007 the team had a budget of 5,5 million euros and a structure, the MSB Promotion, dedicated to marketing, communication and care of the image of the club.
Since 1995 the club plays in the Antarès Arena which has a capacity of 6.000 seats.
