I Leicester Riders sono la squadra di basket dell’omonima città, situata 160km a nord di Londra.
I Loughborough All-Stars, come erano originariamente conosciuti i Leicester Riders, furono fondati da studenti e docenti della Loughborough University il 26 aprile 1967.
Furono membri fondatori della National Basketball League (la lega di squadre amatoriali e semi-professionistiche) nel 1972 e della British Basketball League (il massimo campionato professionistico inglese) nel 1987; sono il club più antico della British Basketball League.
Il club si è trasferito da Loughborough a Leicester nel 1981, sostenuto dal Leicester City Council e dal Leicester City Bus (da cui il cambio di soprannome in "Riders"), prima di tornare a giocare alla Loughborough University nel 2000, dopo la chiusura di Granby Halls, a una nuova sede a pochi passi dalla Victory Hall, dove il club ha giocato la sua prima partita.
Nel 2004 i Riders hanno siglato un accordo di sponsorizzazione con la De Montfort University (DMU) e sono tornati a Leicester, dove hanno giocato le loro partite al John Sandford Sports Center della DMU.
Dopo un periodo difficile finanziariamente per il club tra il 2005 e il 2007, l'ex manager della squadra ed il club dei tifosi hanno formato un consorzio che ha raccolto abbastanza fondi per garantirne la sopravvivenza.
Successivamente l'azienda locale Jelson Homes si è fatta avanti per sponsorizzare il club e da questo momento è iniziata una nuova epoca per il club. Parte dell'accordo di sponsorizzazione con Jelson Homes era garantire il futuro del club investendo in schemi di "basket in the community", fornendo ai giovani del Leicester programmi di allenamento di basket, come il programma "Shoot to the Future", gestito con il supporto della Polizia.
I Riders ora hanno anche un ampio programma giovanile per ragazzi e ragazze, una squadra femminile vicino alla vetta della Division One, uno dei più grandi programmi di Basketball Apprentice del paese al Charnwood College e una partnership con la Loughborough University.
Il club conta quasi 1.500 iscritti nelle diverse fasce di età ed i suoi programmi comunitari raggiungono quasi 15.000 giovani nella città e nella contea.
Negli ultimi anni la squadra ha vinto il campionato inglese cinque volte ed ha raggiunto il successo anche in molte altre coppe nazionali.
Nel 2018 i Riders hanno partecipato per la prima volta ad una competizione continentale giocando la Basketball Champions League ma sono stati eliminati al primo turno dai danesi Bakken Bears, venendo retrocessi nella FIBA Europe Cup.
Dal 2016 la squadra gioca nella Morningside Arena, appositamente costruita e di proprietà della Leicester Riders Foundation, che può contenere 2.400 spettatori.

The Leicester Riders are the basketball team of the city, located 160km north of London.
The Loughborough All-stars, as the Leicester Riders were originally known, were founded by students and faculty at Loughborough University on April 26, 1967.
They were founding members of the National Basketball League (the Amateur and Semi-professional League) in 1972 and the British Basketball League (the largest professional league in England) in 1987; they are the oldest club in the British Basketball League.
The club moved from Loughborough to Leicester in 1981, supported by the Leicester City Council and the Leicester City Bus (hence the nickname change to "Riders"), before returning to play at Loughborough University in 2000, after the closure of Granby Halls, to a new venue just steps away from Victory Hall, where the club played its first game.
In 2004, the Riders signed a sponsorship deal with De Montfort University (DMU) and returned to Leicester, where they played their games at DMU’s John Sandford Sports Center.
After a difficult financial period for the club between 2005 and 2007, the former team manager and the fan club formed a consortium that raised enough funds to ensure their survival.
Afterwards, the local company Jelson Homes came forward to sponsor the club and a new era for the club has begun. Part of the sponsorship deal with Jelson Homes was to secure the club’s future by investing in "basketball in the community" schemes, providing Leicester youth basketball training programs such as the "Shoot to the Future" programmanaged with police support.
The Riders now also have an extensive youth program for boys and girls, a women’s team near the top of Division One, one of the country’s largest Basketball Apprentice programs at Charnwood College, and a partnership with Loughborough University.
The club has nearly 1,500 members in different age groups and its community programs reach almost 15,000 young people in the city and county.
In recent years the team has won the English championship five times and has also achieved success in many other national cups.
In 2018 the Riders competed for the first time in a continental competition playing the Basketball Champions League but were eliminated in the first round by the Danish Bakken Bears, being relegated to the FIBA Europe Cup.
Since 2016 the team plays in the Morningside Arena, specially built and owned by the Leicester Riders Foundation, which can hold 2,400 spectators.
