GDRHS – Groton, MA – Jr Nate Pomeroy finished on a breakaway in the 14th minute and put away a penalty kick in the 34th minute to lead the Crusaders to a 5-1 win over Quabbin Regional. Mike Keating opened the scoring in the 6th minute on a great feed from Sr. Chris MCkinney for the 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later Jr. Nate Pomeroy broke in alone a beat Quabbin Keeper Brandon Midura to the far post to further the lead to 2-0. Quabbin’s Leland Crowther finished a direct kick within the 18 yard box after the official called a back pass violation. Only seconds later GD forced play into the box and a penalty kick was called which Pomeroy converted for the 3-1 half time lead. Quabbin continued to frustrate the Crusader with very defensive and physical play but Sr. Chris Mckinney finished close from an Alex Merlino pass from the endline. Jr. Alex Murphy completed the scoring with a great finish from just inside the 18 when he half volleyed the ball into the top corner from a pass from Sr. Ben Walsh. The Crusaders improve to 7-0-0 in Mid Wach B league play and 10-0-0 overall. Quabbin Regional drop to 2-5-0 in league play at 3-8-0 overall. GD host Leominister on Saturday 10/8 at 11am in a Non-League game.
