Groton, Ma- Sr. Captain Matt Straw set up two goals in the first half and added a third assist in the beginning of the 2nd half to lead the Crusaders to a 6-2 divisional win over the Panthers of Marlboro. Gabe Dingle opened the scoring at 16:45 on a great turn and blast that sailed past Panther Keeper Arthur Torres for the 1-0 lead. Super sub Mitch Wheeler came into the contest and scored just four minutes after entering by beating a player and chipping the ball off the back post for the 2-0 lead . Sr Matt Tornaritis crossed a great ball to Jr. Matt Krikorian who headed it home for the 3-0 lead and three minutes after that Wheeler added a fourth from a great feed from Straw. The Crusaders began to take control of play and took the 4-0 lead into the half. Just seven minutes into the second stanza Straw sent Matt Tornaritis in alone he toe poked it past the panther Keeper for the 5-0 lead. In the 62nd minute Marlboro broke onto the scoring board with a great finish on the one timer to the far post and into the goal 5-1. Sr. Matt Naughton add another for the panthers six minutes later on a great free kick that sailed throught the GD wall and into the near post drawing the gap closer to 5-2. After another Marlboro push GD settled down play and in the 76th minute Andrew Karasevich recieved a great lead pass into the box from So. Matt Warren and he blasted it low past Panther keeper to finish the scoring at 6-2. GD Received great play from Patrick Keating, Tyler Poitras Tim Hilbrunner, Tyler Belanger and Chris Buzan. Marlboro fall to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in Midland B league play and host Hudson on Thursday at 7pm at Kelleher Stadium. GD improve to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Midland B league play and travel to Westboro Thursday night for a 7pm match up with the defending league champion Westboro Rangers (2-1-2).
