GDRHS – Groton, MA, Sr. Midfielder Alex Merlino lead the way with 2 goals in the 2nd half as the Crusader of Groton Dunstable Regional outplay the Bartlett Indians 5-2 this afternoon in a Central Mass Quarterfinal game. Bartlett’s Christian McManus got the Indians on the board in the 7th minute when he redirected a long thrown into the box to the far post for the 1-0 lead. GD pushed forward throughout the 1st half outshooting Bartlett 14-2 and in the 33rd minute Jr. Midfielder Mike Keating found a rebound from the penalty spot and finished to the lower corner to draw things even at 1-1. Four minutes into the 2nd stanza Jr. Midfielder Doug Rosa redirected a Chris Mckinney shot past Indian keeper Tyler Mandeville and GD lead 2-1. Sr. Alex Merlino broke in from the left side and made it 3-1 from a Nate Pomeroy feed in the 57th minute. Bartlett Struck back in the 60th minute on a Penalty Kick from Nick Kobel and drew things back to 3-2. Four minute later Alex Merlino finished a great ball from a Doug Rosa feed and the Crusaders had a 2 goal lead again. Sr. Midfielder Connor O’Brien rounded out the scoring with his first goal of the season when he finished out front on a feed from Sr. Midfielder Mike Kerwin and the Crusaders move on to the Central Mass Semi-Finals were they will face the Tyngsborough Tigers. GD improve to 16-1-1 overall.
