Crusaders Top Mountaineers 2-1 in Boys Soccer

Groton, Ma, - Sr. Dean Tornaritis scored two 2nd half goals to lead the Groton Dunstable Boys Soccer to a 2-1 non league match over Wachusett. The teams played to a first half 0-0 draw with Wachusett almost scoring late in the stanza. Moments into the 2nd half Sr. Nate Martinez was tripped in the box and a penalty was awarded. Tornaritis went to the keepers right but Mountainers keeper Chad Braithwaite guess correctly and made the save. In the 52nd minute GD was awarded a set piece where Nate Martinez rocketed the shot at the wall then the ball redirected behind the wall and on to Tornaritis for the easy finish 1-0. The Mountaineers drew things even in the 60th minute when they were awarded a penalty for a hand ball in the box. David Gentlemen converted from the spot, 1-1. 4 Minutes later Tornaritis beat the sweeper to a bouncing ball and broke in alone blasting a shot from the top of the box that sailed past Braithwaite for the 2-1 lead. GD held off the last 16 minutes and improve to 2-0 while Wachusett fall to 0-1. GD received great play from Brian Bonnett, Joey Zinkann and Matt Warren. GD travel to Westford Saturday to play the Grey Ghosts.
