Holden, MA - SR Forward Kevin Skagerlind scored three second half goals to lift the #4 Mountaineers to a 3-0 defeat of the #6 Crusaders of Groton Dunstable in Holden on Tuesday afternoon. GD played well in the first 40 minutes outshooting the Mountaineers by a 5-3 margin. Jr Forward Matt Fordham broke in from the end baseline and crossed a ball that was just missed by Sr. Simon Chandler and Fordham later hit the crossbar with seconds remaining in the first half, 0-0 at the break. 18 minutes into the 2nd stanza Skagerlind broke in and beat GD Keeper Cole Connerty to the far post on a blast that Connerty got his hand on 1-0. Skagerlind received a great feed in between two GD defenders and broke in sliding it past the GD keeper 2-0. Skagerlind finished a lose ball in the 18 box minutes from the end for the hatrick and his 68th career goal and all time school record at Wachusett Regional. The Mountaineers improve to 7-2-4 overall as GD drops to 9-2-2. GD travel to Marlboro Thursday to play the Panthers at 4pm, a win will give the Crusaders the Midland Wachusett B league title for 2019.
