GROTON -- The moves Nate Pomeroy makes on a soccer field appear to come to him effortlessly.
Even when he's attacking the net at full speed, Groton-Dunstable's junior striker displays the poise of someone having their portrait done.
Which shouldn't come as much of a surprise since Pomeroy has had a picture-perfect start to his season, tallying an eye-catching 12 goals to go along with 4 assists in the Crusaders' first five games.
"He creates a lot of offense," said Groton-Dunstable coach Sean Wisbey, who has guided the Crusaders to a 5-0 start. "It's funny, he's a quiet, well-mannered kid. He comes from a good family. He plays against real good competition at the club level and it helps him see the game better. He is a good student of the game, who wants to get better.
"To me the most special part about him is, yes, he's scored 12 goals in our first five games, which is pretty incredible, but he understands it's not just about him. He's very unselfish to the point where he gives the ball up and gets it back in good situations to finish. What you are seeing is the result of his continued maturity as a player. Last year, he took too much on his back. This year, he knows how to use everyone around him and you see what the result is."
Above all else, Pomeroy sees the weak spots in the defense and attacks them.
