Westborough: 9/17 1-1 Tie Mitch Hardy

Game Summary: We had a big squad today to go after a win against a tough league opponent. Kevin Connerty, Ian Peterson, and Riley Patten dropped down from the varsity and Riley Trimper, Will Torgerson, and Alex Sellers were called up from the JV 2 team. We were hoping to have Brian Bonnett too but during warmups we determined to give his injury a couple more days to heal. We lost Riley Patten about halfway through the first half when he caught an elbow to the side of the head. Riley gave us great minutes when he was in there. Freshman Riley Trimper was really impressive in his JV1 debut. Aidan Huff got the scoring started when he placed a direct kick from about 30 yards out in the top right corner to beat Westborough’s keeper just 13 minutes in. Westborough evened the game up at the 30 minute mark when they converted on a PK. Mitch Hardy had an exceptional game in goal. Very Impressive! Owen Teh, Devon Sullivan and Josh Marion also had strong games for GD.

Tyngsborough: 9/14 0-1 Loss Hardy/Newman

Game Summary: Despite a great effort we lost our second consecutive game against Tyngsborough. Tyngsborough was able to convert on a corner early in the second half (46) to take the lead. GD created many opportunities missing on 2 direct kicks inside the 30 and coming up empty on 6 corner kicks. Standout performances were put in by Sam Enke, Owen Teh, and Mitch Hardy. Aidan Huff played a solid second half in the midfield for us as well.

Westford Academy: 9/12 2-5 Loss Mitch Hardy/Alex Newman

Game Summary: GD jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the game via 2 freshman call ups from the JV 2 team. First it was Aidan Ferrara who followed up an Aidan Huff shot that rebounded off the goalie at 11 minutes. Then just 4 minutes later Will Zinkann put GD up by 2. Westford Academy responded with 3 goals of their own before the end of the 1st half. The second half was pretty even play with outstanding effort and grit from Owen Teh, Devon Sullivan, and Sam Enke. Westford scored at the 66 and 72 minutes beating GD 5-2.

Shepherd Hill 9/8 2-1 Win Mitch Hardy

Game Summary: Nice to start the season out with a win. Experimenting a lot to see who plays hard and smart. Very messy game but that was to be expected. First touches need work and we struggled with possession. The majority of the team is new with only a few returners to the JV squad from last season. No swing players down from varsity or freshman call ups today. This will be a competitive team that will grow as the season progresses. Sophomore John Fortier scored the first goal of the game 20 minutes in getting to a loose ball in the box first. The score remained 1-0 until halfway through the second half when Shepherd Hill converted on a PK. GD scored the go-ahead goal with just 2 minutes left when Ed Murray played a through ball to Graham Chilcoat who made a beautiful off ball run to beat the defender and score the eventual game winner.
