Groton, Ma - Sophomore forward David Alvarez fought hard to win a long ball over the top of the Nashoba Sweeper and broke in the 18 box and toe balled the game winner past the Nashoba net minder with 4:56 remaining in the contest to lift the Crusaders of Groton Dunstable to a 3-2 win in Midland B league play. GD opened the scoring early when Ian Maguire's long throw into the goal mouth was touched by the Nashoba keeper Ethan Winer and into the side netting, 1-0. Late in the first half Sr. Will Torgersen delivered a great ball across the six box and Sr. Brian Scott slid in front of the Nashoba Keeper to finish near post, 2-0. Teams went into the break at 2-0.

Nashoba came out strong early in the second half and Nate Buchholz struck a ball that hit the GD crossbar but deflected out. In the 70th minute Nashoba's Mitchell Scanlon hit a direct free kick from outside the 18 box and it eluded GD keeper Alex Newman and found the near top corner of the net, 2-1. Two minutes later Chieftain Jon Harnet won a tackle and broke to the end line and crossed the ball perfectly out front for Nate Buchholz who finish with his head to the far post, 2-2. The Chieftains continued to press for the game winner but Brian Scott send a long ball to Alvarez who finished in the 75th minute for the win. GD received great play from Brian Scott, Ian Maguire, Chase Herberich, and Will Zinkann. Nashoba travel to Wachusett next Tuesday 10/2 and fall to (1-4) overall and (0-2) in Midland B league play. GD host Dracut Saturday at 10:30am at TSC and improve to (1-2-2) overall and (1-1-1) in Midland B League play.
