There are two Japanese words this week, both written in kanji, for those who want to practice their calligraphy. The first word is sansui-ga (landscape painting).
The next word is akamatsu (Japanese red pine).
Here are relatively simple sketches of the Japanese Red Pine for practice.
My scanner doesn't always do a good job of scanning in my paintings. In this case, subtle shading often comes out too dark as with the shading over the needles, or things like shadows in the foreground and the hills and mountains in the background barely scan at all. Please use your imagination a little when looking at my painting.
