Badge Requirements 

1. (SN-01) Demonstrate basic skills of using a Nautical Chart, including how to identify:

   • Water depth

   • Port limits

   • National borders

   • Landmark elevation

2. (SN-02) Understand the principles of the International Organisation of Marine Aids to Navigation (IALA) marks (Region A), including the:

   • Colour

   • Topmark shapes

   • Purpose

   • Locate all the lighthouses that are managed by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore

3. (SN-03) Understand the concepts of tides and current and be able to read a tide and tidal stream table:

   • Spring tide and neap tide

   • Effects of moon and sun

4. (SN-04) Understand basic COLREGs, including:

   • (Head-On, Crossing, Over-taking) (Part B II)

   • (Narrow Channel, Traffic Separation Scheme) (Part B I)

5. (SN-05) Demonstrate ability to plot positions on chart using bearings and coordinates with at least 3 of the following methods:

   • Make a 3 bearings fix

   • Make a 3 ranges fix

   • Make a Range and Bearing fix

   • Make a Latitude and longitude fix
