Complete any ONE of the following:
Look after a patch of garden, know what tools are needed and how to use and look after them.
Grow something in your garden suitable for the time of year.
Grow a variety of plants indoors and know the conditions under which they must be kept.
Grow a plant and chart its growth over two weeks from the day of germination.
Choose any TWO of the following:
Build a compost bin and maintain it for two months.
Build a hydroponic garden containing three vegetables or herbs, or three ornamental plants. Maintain this garden through harvest or flowering.
Build a vermipost bin (worm compost bin) and maintain it for two months.
Carry out a soil test using a standard test kit.
Draw and label the parts of a seed and list the conditions for germination.
Grow vegetables or flowers from seed; know how to pick out and transplant the seedlings into a plot.
Help maintain a lawn and understand why it needs constant attention.
Help plan and plant a rocky garden, a fern or herb garden, herbaceous border, hanging basket, garden tub, etc.
Keep a weather log for at least two weeks and display your findings.
Know about hazards to plants and flowers (e.g. disease, pests) and understand what preventative measures can be taken and what can be done to aid growth.
Know how to store vegetables and how long they may be stored.
Make a compost heap.
Show how to prepare flowers for display.
Note: A Young Botanist Badge certificate issued by the Singapore Science Centre will qualify for the Gardener Proficiency Badge.
The Cub Scout Round Table has initiated this activity, to help Scout Units achieve the Gardener Cub Scout Activity Badge. This activity is a collaboration with Scouts & students from MINDS Lee Kong Chian Gardens School.
The price of each gardening kit is currently undergoing revision.
Each gardening kit will include the Gardener Activity Badge.
Please await the official circular which will be released sometime in March 2025.
Purchase of gardening kits are on a first-come-first-serve basis as there is a limited number of kits available each year.
Leaders may either self-collect the kits at the Scout Shop or opt for delivery at $30 (before GST) per location.
