Complete ALL of the following:
Own or have the regular use of a bicycle of suitable size for your age.
Be able to mount and dismount safely.
Explain:
a) Why you must keep the bicycle in a road worthy condition, and help to do this for the bicycle you own or use regularly.
b) Why you must keep a bicycle locked when leaving it unattended.
Be able to clean and oil a bicycle. Show how to pump the tyres or mend a puncture.
Understand why you need lights and reflective clothing. Discuss how to keep safe when riding in low light conditions.
Show knowledge of the proper use of hand signals and rules applicable to cyclists in Singapore.
Demonstrate that you can ride safely and confidently by going for a short ride in a safe place with your pack and Leader. If this is not possible, make a video recording and show it to your Leader.
When you have completed all requirements then make a written and signed promise to your Akela that you will wear your safety helmet every time before setting off on your bicycle - and for the duration of your ride.
Note: Safety helmets should be worn by all cyclists in all organised events, including tests and cycling assessments for Cub Scouts.
