Choose any FOUR of the following activities:
1) Explain how birds are useful indicators of the quality of the environment.
2) Show that you are familiar with the terms used to describe birds by sketching a perched bird and then labelling 12 different parts of the bird.
3) Sketch or trace an extended wing and label all the different types of wing feathers.
4) Observe and be able to identify at least 10 species of wild birds. Prepare a field notebook, making a separate entry for each species and record the following information from your wildlife observations:-
• Note the date, time, location and habitat of the bird.
• Describe the bird's main feeding habitat and list two types of food that it is likely to eat.
5) Be able to identify the 10 bird species in your field notebook and be able to recognise at least 3 species by their call. Demonstrate the call to the pack.
6) Go on a field trip with a local club or with someone who is knowledgeable about birds, and make a list of birds observed.
7) List 2 bird species in Singapore that are only present in small numbers. Why do you think this is so? If the population of these species is decreasing, then what could be done to help improve their numbers? Discuss this with your Akela or your Six.
