Badge Requirements
To gain this badge, Scouts must complete the requirements in ONE of the following alternatives:
Alternative A
Choose ONE of the following activities:
(a) Build a model involving the use of a plastic or white metal kit or pre-cast figures.
(b) Design and construct a model from wood, plastic or metal construction set (such as Lego or Meccano).
Demonstrate knowledge of the different types of kits or parts available In the material you chose.
Discuss the experience of building the model with a knowledgeable adult.
Alternative B
Construct a model airplane, using a kit if desired. When flown, it must meet one of the following target flight performances:
(a) Hand-launched gilder: to fly for 5 metres.
(b) Rubber-powered aircraft: to fly for 30 seconds.
(c) Control line aircraft: to show a smooth take-off and landing, with three laps of level flight at about 2 meters, with a climb and dive.
Discuss the experience of building and flying the model with a knowledgeable adult.
Alternative C
Build an electric or engine-powered model boat or yacht not less than 45 cm in length (kits permitted) and show it to be capable of maintaining a straight course of not less than 25 meters.
Discuss the experience of building the model with a knowledgeable adult.
Alternative D
Choose ONE of the following activities:
(a) Build an electric slot car racer (or a Tamiya car model) and drive it a minimum distance of 122 meters on any track without stopping or leaving the slot more than FOUR times.
(b) Build a free running car of any type (kits permitted) and demonstrate that it will run for at least 18 meters. Airscrew drive is allowed.
